I miss the old Baltar.. the one who'd wax angry at the lighted-conehead Cylon.

Then again I miss the old silver clunkers, too.   Beyond that I can't comment because I've only just started watching BSG and I still feel dirty every time I do it.

Baltar reminds me of me.

The Shield has been great so far this season, this is the first time in a long time where I feel like I really need to tune in and find out what happens.

Finally caught last week's Battlestar on the TIVO last night. I have to agree with being a little disappointed in the deux ex machina manner in which Rosslin's life was saved. I'd much rather have seen them kill the character off and have to deal with the narrative consequences of that. And I LIKE her character, I just felt like they had written themselves into a corner and this was an easy way out. I also felt that way about the Gina Cylon being the one to cak the Admiral's character. It was too pat, too easy, and let everyone off. Of course, I did like the way they foreshadow Baltar going even farther off the deep fucking end after reading that letter.

Of course, the fact that the President has been saved by Cylon blood should cause SERIOUS problems in the future. All those people who followed her wily nily because of the prophecy that the dying leader would lead them to Kobol might just start to feel a little betrayed that not only did she not die (and thus may not be the person of prophecy they all believed) but she was saved by the Cylons on top of it? Could get ugly.

Last BSG was better than the previous two.  Baltar has waffled back to "enemy", Lee has the AIDS, and Rosslin is turning into a Cylon.  I know we are one step away from "Who shot J.R.Huh!!one1" but I just can't stop watching.

If you didn't watch Surface this season, you missed a damn good season. There were times when I really wasn't sure where the show was going, and some of the characters weren't quite what I thought they should be. But as a whole, the 15-episode season really was pretty well-maintained. They didn't really pad the mystery out, they ended the season by telling you what was going on and then presenting that scenario to you. If it gets to a next season, and I hope it does, it'll be "what happens after" instead of the X-Files "let's keep it mysterious."

The season finale was one of the best, well-paced, exciting episodes of TV I've seen in a while.

Lost is "Let's Keep it Mysterious." Xfiles was textbook "What happens next" almost every episode of every season except the last one (which doesn't count, "THAT NO MULDER, NOOO!") was episodic. They solved something in every single one. Hell, I can remember the very few episodes that weren't episodic and they came around the release of the movie to tie it in and during huge emotional breaks. Alien/Creature wise, it was very much solved by the end of the episode. Though, I'll admit, it's not as "What happens next" as 24 which is not episodic at all but rather forced time progression. Also, Alias falls into the "let's keep it mysterious category." But we can assuredly blame JJ Abrams for both of those.

Now, to get to my actual question. What the fuck is Surface?

Surface is an NBC sci-fi-esque show on Monday nights. It just finished its first season, which was only 15 episodes. Think giant lizards from the earth's core slowly invading the oceans, breeding like crazy, etc. etc. There's a lot more to it than that, but that's the starting premise.

X-Files wrapped things up episodically, but there was an overarching storyline that they kept stringing out instead of providing any resolution. The so-called "Mythology" episodes dealing with the alien conspiracy are the ones I'm talking about. They strung that out for 9 seasons, about 5 seasons longer than they should have. And Lost is going for the "Keep it Mysterious" vibe. Surface didn't do that; there was very little padding in the main lizards story, because it really wasn't the whole story even though it looked like it would be.

Surface and Invasion are the two "Lost-a-like" shows that started in the fall. I tried watching both, but gave up on Invasion after 5 episodes because the characters acted like dumbasses. I thought I'd give up on Surface first, but it was much better than I figured it would be.

I cried real tears when I thought Nim was dead.  I cheered and drank a beer when I found out he wasn't.  TV is an emotional roller coaster ride for me!

So Arrested Development showed their last hurrahs over 2 hours on Friday.  Wrapped it all up ini the usual quirky way, though the quality was only as good as the entire season's been. .

Love Monkey just got canceled. I can't even pretend to understand why. This one baffles me. After I get past the anger of most shows getting canceled, I can understand why. This one seemed to have all the trappings that make a good show. Meh.

I have a question, which I guess I can ask in here.

Why the hell is Prison Break a TV Series? That story would be pretty damn good for a movie. Get rid of all the stuff that happens outside, lose some of the characters and you can squeeze it into 2, 2 and a half hours. It would be ten times better as a movie. I find it kind of dull as a tv series and It'll probably just be booooh-ring in the next season.

And they killed Cavaldi... err... Peter Stormare. What the fuck is up with that?

As a matter of fact I swallowed one of these about two hours ago and the explanation is that it is, in fact, my hand.

He has several ongoing movie roles. Most of the rest of the cast don't have such busy diaries. I suspect he took the job on condition of not being roped in for several series.

So uh, Surface would be good if it weren't for the kid and his family. About to hit episode 9 and uhm, yea. I'm more interested in the bullshit biology side than the xfiles/teen drama combo they've got going.

I've heard Peter Stormare is pursuing his career in music and decided to lay his acting career on hold for a while. Don't remember where I picked up these rumors though.

I hated the kid Miles from the get go. I kept hoping Nim would eat his damn face off. But by the end of the season, I actually started to dig the kid. You'll see why in about 3 or 4 episodes. Like I said, there were some character beats I wouldn't have chosen, but by the last 2 shows, it really picks up from a story aspect. It's one of those shows where the characters aren't why I'm watching it, the story is.

I haven't gotten swept up by a formulaic sitcom in some time but I'm finding myself getting attached to "How I Met Your Mother" aka that new show with Neil Patrick (Doogie Howser) Harris.  A little hotness, a little humor... very cleverly written imo.  ymmv

Stupid name + nobody watches = cancellation.

As for you watching it, that doesn't count. People who download shows off bittorrent don't count when it comes to viewers.

Surface was being replayed on Sci-Fi channels on some nights, and they even did marathons. Check there.

And if that fails, BT it.

I need to BT like all five seasons of Smallville, because I can and Kristen Kruek (no idea on spelling) is so incredibly hot it makes me sort of ill.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

I think TiVo-san is getting some of them, not sure.  My wife is in charge of that.  There sure is a lot of bullshit in the program list, that's all I know.  As for BT, my skills are weak; I still haven't gotten the Doctor Who Christmas Special since being dropped from my super UK torrent site.  If you want to msg me some places, I promise to look at the msg and remember it for at least two months.  The torrent sites you get from google searches are largely ass.

I still haven't gotten to the halfway point of Densha Otoko, though.  TV is nice, but games are better.
