Is there any point in trying to find guildies to group with, or should I just STFU and grind through to 20 with the henchmen? Is there any inherent advantage/disadvantage?

I haven't grouped with guildies yet for the PVP, nor have I grouped with random fucktards either. If I'm on, give me a holler on TS and we can duo some places. I'm only level 11 now.

The problem with the game is that it's a one time thing.
As in, you take one character through all of it and you can warp around. Grouping with lower level characters (5 levels or lower) is truly a waste because you get Zero exp. You heard me - Zero.
I might be running a Mesmer/Monk through the game at some point, but not right now.

No, but our guild is small so the odds are your not going find someone in the same part at you is low. I was thinking of getting people together and rushing the story, but you'd have to do all your skill quests later. Especially if someone is a monk and going to PvP. We are going are going to need serious monkage. A guild of Necro/Warrior/Rangers is going to be gimp.

I ask once or twice in Guild chat, once or twice in Local Chat.
If no one presents themself in a timely fashion, I kick it with Alessia and crew.

If you need a monk I have a level 18 one named Pathos Arcana. He's good with the heals and likes to play with fire.
I also have a Ranger/Monk at around level 12 named Bhodi Khan who needs some levelling action.

Most of my characters are in noob world, too... but I bask in the shinning light of my nubbiness. And I have LOADS of dye. So far my favourite character is a mes/ele. Someday I'll take the leap and level a char past 8... maybe.

Fixed it for you. Also, I have a lowbie monk sitting around somewhere. But if we need Monk power, the Divine Healer build is still Damn Good. PS: Fuck Alesia, and the author of her AI. Fuck them both in their asses.

Pickup groups in GW = teh stabby. You gotta love people that go "lolollolllolololololol" when some people die and then proceed to keep going, ignoring any requests to use a res signet or let Alesia res the deaders. Or the ones that run ahead and train 10 mobs, then call everyone "nubs" and spam obscenities for five minutes in groupchat. Or the random arena people that ignore focus fire targets and go 'wats a rez signet lol?'...
... I was probably spoiled by WoW and its "no need to group with asstards" philosophy.

I advocate henchmen over people but because I leveled so fast, I didn't get the chance to really group with anyone from the guild so now I'm waiting for everyone to catch up so I can. If you are around 16-20, give me a shout when I am beastly catassing and I'd love to group with ya.

We need your help with the Aurora Glade stuff on. I know we're near the endgame and things on the difficulty curve just went from Henchman capable to , BLURGH NO HENCHMAN 4 J00, JACKASS. Bael, Tazelbain, Veronica, Ezuret and I are all approaching 18...I think. So yea, we'll be with you shortly.

I've got a lvl 12 war/mnk and a lvl 8 rng/ele. I'll go with either one if anyone is on in that lvl range for groupage. Other than that I believe I'll be sticking with the henchmen. I'd like to take a little time and make sure the bonus quests are completed before moving on and taking a bit more time to see how new skills work. The bleed/gash combo works well but need to find something that works as good on mobs w/o flesh.

Grouped with a buddy for a bit last night...things seemed to go much smoother than with all henchmen, although the stuff was a bit low level for me (I was 9, he was 7 and dinged 8; mobs were 4-9). I am really getting sick of the linear pathing of all the zones- not being able to walk 2 steps up a 5% incline is fucking pissing me off. Might as well put guardrails up so I don't waste half the goddamned night trying to walk where I am not allowed.

If there is anything I can say I hate with a passion in Guild Wars, it's the invisible walls/no climb hills. It really makes exploration a pain in the ass.

OK-- finally bought my full order and now have a level 8 R/Mo with 700 gold and more salvaged crafting stuff than I know what to do with. Still in Old Ascalon. I have all 8 ranger skills but only 6 of the monk skills -- seems like I missed something somewhere but I haven't found any more monk-related quests.
Character name is "Sobelia The Green".
1. Anyone know if there is a quest to get up to a full set of 8 monk skills in Old Ascalon?
2. Anyone know if it's worth time farming Charr north of the wall in Old Ascalon? I did it for a little while teamed with a level 9 warrior last night, and the XP seems good, but I am wondering whether I should go ahead and move into the full pve world.
3. Anyone know what to do with the quest item Gwen gives -- Tattered Tapestry?
4. Picked up two other 'quest items' I haven't found a use for -- a pearl and a pendant. Again, any ideas?

Do the PVE co-op missions (with or without real people/henchmen). Those move the storyline along, and can open up new content that you might not access otherwise. I think if you don't, you'll be left farming stuff that eventually gives jack and shit for experience, just to try to fight through areas with new quest content.

Craft Items- Good to craft, horde for alts(bank is account-wide), or sell to other players. Skills- Once you are finished with Ascolon, Old Ascolon, and sanctuary, its time to go to Piken. North of the Wall- AKA The Breach is the where to go for Piken. The supply quest will lead you to Piken. It can be rough. Gwen- don't know. Quest Items- Pretty sure they are for quests in Pre-Searing, so you can junk them.
Now you high enough you should consider starting the story missions and ascalon arena ( as a monk you'll do well and its good exp if you can win)

I found a bit of a trick for Piken - its bloody impossible with the level 3 minions from Old Ascalon. Pick up some level 8's and go for a long walk. It works much better. Or give a shout out in guild - I'd be willing to lend a hand.
Additionally - I'm up for grouping anytime. Much more fun then the rent a party.

That Aurora Glade mission is hard. You have to protect all the little circle thingies.
Lost it twice in a row and stopped playing.

She is just misunderstood.
Unless you understand her to be a semi-competent pain in the ass, in which case you have her sussed out quite well.
She is better than Gwen, at least.

It was me. I screwed up the Wilds mission.
Can we defer blame to Alesia though. That foxy little minx is entirely too unpredictable.

I'm a west coaster who is happy to group up with anyone who needs another. I have a 10 E/Me and normally group with a friend who is a Mo/Me. Character name is Ezdaar Flameweaver.
I have found that if you stand in the mission areas you can pick up a few decent people but it takes a few minutes of reading through all the horrible crap scrolling by.

I got 8 monk skills and five elemental but I have a Mo/El. When I did a primary elemental I got 8 elemental skills so I'm not sure if your secondary can get 8 in Old Ascalon? The other elemental quests don't seem to be there for my monk? 4. Picked up two other 'quest items' I haven't found a use for -- a pearl and a pendant. Again, any ideas?
When you exit Ascalon go right and you'll see a guy talking to the prince. Watch them talk. Talk to the guy, he will want the pendant and the pearl and another item (don't remember the name, all "Beautiful something"). I've only found the pearl so far. ---- I've gotten to Piken with the level three henchmen. You go through the gate with the quest guy and then go down to the water. Follow the river under the bridge and then through the left gap and up the hill to Piken. There are only 3 groups to fight. The first three guys, some guys by the river (3-4), and maybe 6 char on the path up the hill.

Guildees or no, I played to lvl 20 almost entirely with henchies. Any grouping at all for an ele seems impossible.

So far I've found the henchmen to be useful, especially once I took them from Ascalon City to Piken and it seemed they levelled immediately from 3 to 6. Then we went out into the Breach and kicked butt.
I like that doing quests unlocks skills. At level 8 I had 8 ranger skills and 6 monk skills; after a few quests, at level 9 I've got almost 20 ranger skills and a similar number of monk skills unlocked. I'm guessing most of the non-elite skills continue to be easy to acquire as you continue onward in missions?
I remember trying to capture skills from bosses using the signet of capture -- and remember it being rather difficult due to timing issues (basically trying to capture a skill when the mob is using it, while trying to prevent yourself from getting hammered by the mob).

Each town has a set level for their henches. The only flaw I have found with the caputure signet is you can capture skilsl that you would have otherwise have recieved for free.

Yeah its annoying in beta you had to basically have a list of elite skills then see if it was a good one, then make everyone not kill the boss while you pulled off the capture.
