Not a bad trailer, actually.  I'm hoping what's in there is only like the first 20 minutes of the movie.

That is basically what we got from Cloverfield's trailer.

Cloverfield is one of those movies I like waaaaaay more than I should.  There is a lot of bon mots in there that really worked for me.

My main problem with Cloverfield is that the shaky-cam gave me some real motion sickness to the point where I had difficulty getting through the movie.  The premise was great and I liked the overall take on the genre.  This appears not to be a found footage film, which is great news for me.

I wish they hadn't shown John Goodman as being partly evil-ish in the trailer, but I'm still gonna see it.

I was good with him looking evil and menacing...even a little psychotic. But seems like it is going to turn out he was playing overzealous protector. *yawn*

Very bizarre trailer, but I loved Cloverfield so I'm down.

I am guessing survivalist who had some information the others don't and sort of abducted them for their own good type vibe.

Or a psycho who has abducted them and convinced them that outside is dangerous to keep them captive.  Could go lots of different directions.

Given the name, you have to think there is something crazy out there - 2 months til we find out.

I dunno, this trailer didn't have enough explosions, laser beams shooting into the sky, and Inception BWAAAHHHHHHHHHHH for me to be intrigued or interested. why so serious?

How much would people lose their minds if JJ managed to get a new Star Wars film made in secret to the point nobody knew of it until 2 months before release....

It's a lot easier to make a movie in secret when it's connected to a movie that nobody has talked about in the 7 years since it came out and was largely only notable for its marketing campaign.

This is exactly what I thought.

Edit:  THAT'S how you do a trailer!  Great music accompanying the visuals, plus we weren't spoonfed a synopsis of the movie.

I'm in. I loved Cloverfield.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

I also love Cloverfield. Wife was completely unable to watch it because of the egregious shakycam however.

This was a great movie, the acting from all three characters was great but John Goodman knocked it out of the park.  Really needed a different title.

Didn't need a different title. Abrams wants the Cloverfield tag to be a sort of Twilight Zone thing, I like it.

Solid, solid acting here and a decent number of genuine WTF moments.

I thought it was quite good.  It got a little cliche and silly at the end when she gets out, but overall a good film.

I am not saying I didn't like it. John Goodman was exceptional. I just can't help but feel like the movie was a prologue for Independence Day or something rather than Cloverfield.

Well obviously it had nothing to do with the other Cloverfield.  I guess they want to turn the name into a sort of twilight zone/sci-fi series of self contained titles?

But yeah, I'll give you that the movie even existing is a bit odd, and the whole thing felt strange.  It was obviously a low budget acting piece that sort of brushed at mainstream sci-fi.  That's not the sort of thing Hollywood execs usually green light these days...

JJ Abrams said (and granted, this was before he bought up God Particle) that he wanted the next movie to tie the two together. It's fucking goofy.

Yeah, I remember him saying that also.  But it was in the context of showing the same events of the first movie, but from the perspective of random other people filming it.  Not sure what happened, but obviously that idea got blown to hell.  But hey, I'll take psycho John Goodman.

Here is where we are going to diverge heavily, because I thought season 1 of lost was some of the best TV ever.  Season 2 was pretty great also.  It of course ended up totally shitting the bed in the way that makes me hate the whole series, but I still feel the first season or two deserve credit for being the highest quality network TV made at the time.

Not to relitigate TV past but season 1 of Lost was excellent, season 2 was a bit meandering, season 3 sucked so hard because they didn't have any idea how to proceed without a specific ending. I actually thought the rest of the series was somewhat uneven but I may be the only person that loved the ending.

I haven't seen 10 Cloverfield Lane yet but still don't really have any idea what to make of it.

I've still only seen the trailer (although thanks for reminding me that I've been meaning to catch this on streaming), but based on those little bits of his performance he strikes me as basic "conservative white patriarch with poor impulse control".  I'm pretty sure we all know at least one of those.
