That's a terrifying thought.

Jonah Lomu, legendary All Black player dies at 40. I knew he had some serious problems with his kidney but I didn't expect this news. I got to see him play in an exhibition match in Llanduddno about 20 years ago. The All Blacks crushed the local team (one of the best club teams in the country) and the final score was something like 118-0. I remember seeing Lomu running down the pitch, ball under his arm and three Welshmen hanging off him, trying to bring him down. He made the last 20 yards like that and scored. He was a 250 pound guy who could run 100m in ten seconds. Terrifying.

I didn't start following rugby until the end of his career but he was scary then, I can't imagine what it was like playing against him in his prime.

Well there's the whole nation of Australia for one. Sucky news about Lomu though, he was a beast.

I am shocked he lived as long as he did given his serious addiction problems. Still sad though.

Came to post that clip. One of my favorite scenes. His pregame is also great: "I don't wanna put any undue pressure on you guys, but Coach Gennero's last words were, win or I'll die."

Lemmy died today. It's a bad week for people with Lem in their names.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something. We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

I was never big into metal...however, I was into industrial (Ministry, NIN, Front 242, etc.). That said, you can see Motorhead's influence throughout. Fuck cancer, again.

This. Also, brought up the guys band in spotify and briefly listened to their various popular tracks. I don't think I've ever actually heard a song by them in my life, heh. Obviously just one of those pop culture things I missed, I guess.

The only Motorhead I've ever heard was in Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3. Pretty good though!

If I've heard them it was probably in Guitar Hero or Rock Band. No songs are coming to mind though, and I can't be arsed to listen to random songs on Youtube while at work.

It's not so much that Lemmy was a great musician. It's that he was a heavy metal icon. He was metal.

In the days before there was even such thing as "metal" and the image we've come to associate with it, there was Lemmy. He played rock fast & loud as he liked it so that the rockers, punks, and headbangers all got together & liked his style. He was also a working musician who released album after album and toured relentlessly even throughout this last year. It was hard to imagine there wouldn't be a new Motörhead album or tour every 18 months. That he got to continue doing what he loved until he was 70 is impressive.

Not really a celebrity, but former baseball player Dave Henderson died a few days ago shortly after undergoing a kidney transplant. I remember him hitting a home run against the Angels to send the Red Sox to the World Series in 1986 (and all know how that ended ) and finally winning it with Oakland in 1989. Good but not great player that hit one of the more memorable HR in MLB playoff history. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14442761/dave-henderson-dies-age-57
