Anyone going to watch?

I like the team behind it, but the concept does not intrigue me.  I'm going to watch the first few episodes to see if it is any good (or gets good), but I have serious doubts that it will have any depth.

2020 will be the year I gave up all hope.

No plans to, but it's Monday so it's this or the Bungles. I agree, it doesn't interest me as it feels like an attempt to jump on the coattails of Grimm and the ABC one with their property characters.

My pre-viewing over/under prediction is 7 episodes, but then I didn't think "The Following" would go in to season 2 either.

Yeah, I gave up on the Following after the first episode - I do not get the appeal of Kevin Bacon.

The premise of this show alone makes me violent.

Why?  Is it because it's another fairy tale show?  I'm hoping this one is a bit more hollow-weenie for some reason.  I don't particularly enjoy fairy tale shows and films, except for the odd Grimm.  I don't know if I'll watch it but my sister put it to record while she's away just in case it's good.  I'll check back here tomorrow.  I'm getting old and don't have that many hours left, you know.  I have better things to do like... well, you know... things.  Like stuff.

Ichabod crane is a spy for the American revolution under gen. george washington.  he beheads an evil british soldier who becomes the headless horseman.  They then travel to the future where crane joins the police in hunting down the horseman and hordes of other demons.

Also the headless horseman is the fourth rider of the apocalypse, death.

It is essentially Lost (two time frames) + Supernatural (supernatural) + generic procedural (for the headless people).

I trust the crew running the show from their Fringe work, but I think they bit off more than they can chew.  I expect the 'man out of time' angle will get old fast.

This is going as well as I expected.   why so serious?

Meddling witches should have just let Ichabod die, problem resolved!

ed: Oh for fuck's sake, it's even worse than I thought.  They're unsubtly working Fox propaganda into the story. Teaser for next week: "7% tarriff on baked goods.  We started a revolution over 2%!"  and some line I barely caught about starting the "Tea Party" to save the nation from the apocalypse.

I liked it right up to the time the horseman grabbed the shotgun and the M4. The demon cameo got me back though.

I thought the tax line was funny. I'm not looking for high art from this so I'm ok with it so far.

I think it was ok for the first episode but nothing really great. I liked how they had a single police officer escort a man committed to a mental institute and they even let the man sit on the front seat of the police car (the kind of mental patient that had just said he'd shot someone and cut of their head... in addition to saying he is 250+ years old). The headless horseman felt like a boring bad guy (especially when it started using firearms) but the demon at the end of the episode looked like it could be something genuinely creepy if done well.

Police Chief Seven-Up Yours: I don't believe any of this shit, go throw that guy in the looney bin!

ten minutes later...

Crap, you've been corroborated. I therefore now accept and believe all this supernatural shit, and hereby appoint you, random deputy/lieutenant, to head the task force to save the world! Oh, and I'm promoting crazy guy to assisting acting partner guy or something.

Liked the lead actor, thought the lead female was channeling Jeremy Irons/Al Pacino in some of her scenes though. Premise could have a good creepy vibe, so I'll watch through Halloween at least.

Can we just have Clancy Brown back instead?

I did actually turn it on and then off when the crazy but very very adorable Ichabod was in the front seat of the cop car.  It wasn't because that bit was stupid, which is was, but because I was just tired of watching.  I hope it gets creepy, too.  I like creepy.  I watch Halloween episodes of everything that has one except for like hospital shows and shows that are like soap operas (Grey's Anatomy, et al) just for fun.  See you on Halloween, adorable Ichabod!

PS  The acting isn't horrible and Ichabod has some funny lines and reactions to stuff, but the dialog as a whole is kind of dull so far.

I have low expectations for pilots, and they seem to be struggling as much as I expected that I would with creating Supernatural rules that don't get silly, but it was better than expected in some areas (some of the acting, some of the humor, etc...) I think it has the potential to be a steap above Grimm, but Grimm wasn't good enough to hold my attention.  I'm giving it 2 more episodes before I make a call.

Hmm, well, when the only things I really enjoyed about the episode involved the two "name" guest stars, it's not a good sign.

Caught this on a flight the other day. The Kurgan losing his head made me smile. Other than that not so much. It felt like the writers had to much premise to get across in too short a time.

I gave it a second episode.  It has Fringe's cadence down - the pacing is good.  However, they seem to be having the same problem that most supernatural shows do - they wave their hands, say, "'Tis magic!" and don't feel like they need to worry about whether the magic makes sense.

I don't like the main actress (kind of flat acting), the main actor is good (and they're doing better than I expected with having him come to understand the modern world - although giving him an eidetic memory will bite them in the $#@!), and the supporting cast is very bland.  The world just isn't engaging, either...

I'm giving them a third episode, but if I'm not more impressed I'm going to give it up and then perhaps come back to it and do an on-demand marathon one weekend in the background while I do some other stuff.

Since whatever CBS was showing was effing terrible I decided to catch the 2nd half of this and see how it was after the pilot.

I turned it off after 15 mins and 3 subtle right-wing statements. Still terrible.

Second episode and Dead Cop genuinely feeling sorry for the victims he tagged was a very nice touch.

But yes, it's dumb. I'll give it a few more episodes.

Yes it's dumb, but it's fun.  I don't have a corn cob in my ass, so I'm enjoying it without getting up in internet-arms about the dumb things you see in most every TV series.  I never looked at "makes sense" after I saw the name.  Only watched the first episode so far.

I actually like the basic premise (despite how cheezy it is) and atmosphere. I just thought it felt really rushed, I really disliked the pacing. And for whatever reason, I'm feeling zero interest in the main character (the cop).

I think in episode two, as soon as I realized there would be a total of 25 minutes between the reveal of that week's monster and the demise of said monster - I lost interest. Episodic writing like this doesn't work in this genre. I've been spoiled by HBO, AMC, etc.

I don't think this show has the confidence or gusto to pull off this ridiculous premise.  Which is kind of a fatal flaw in a genre show.

I'm actually fine with the pacing and not having the monster reveal and finish right at the end of each show.  That would really be formulaic, IMO.  And there seems to be an overarching storyline going on and added to everything not being tied up neatly at the end of each episode (I really don't think the bad witch was done away with that easily), it works for me.  I'm wondering how no one has noticed that the dead cop character's body has disappeared and is still wandering around town again.  That resurrection scene was creepy as hell though.

I was wondering if or when they'd get him into more modern clothing or even if they'll bother.  At least they did show him washing his stuff in the one episode and using a hair dryer to dry it out.  Still, even if he prefers that styles of clothing, make some reproductions of it in modern materials?

I still haven't watched #2 but I'm betting this is going to be low-brow enough that the costumes won't change much.  If Ichabod starts wearing slacks and a polo, he will turn into an entirely different character.  Entirely!

Maybe he'll pick up some new clothes when the renaissance fair comes to town.  Only superheroes can wear the same thing all the time because it's some sort of super fabric that cleans itself constantly.  And cartoons, too.  Yes, it bothers me, too.

Ichabod wearing the same clothes all the time is another 'authentic' piece they're trying to bring, I suppose.  You didn't own daily outfits in the 1700s when everything had to be hand made from the thread on up.  You owned 2-3 shirts a pair of pants one or two sets of boots and maybe some Sunday finery.

Though they should address it with him making a comment about how rich people are that they're always wearing different clothes.  Look at just how much you have. You could do with less like Real Americans!
