- Note, this response is not a part of the going argument that I tried to conclude. It is simply a question about forum ethics. -

As a site owner and lead administrator, shouldn't he be acting more like an example to people on how to behave, rather than be like Nixon, who believed his presidential status made him above the law?

I support the right to arm bears.

RK should be banned for not uninstalling Scarlet Blade within the first few minutes!

Or for installing it in the first place?

WAIT!  I installed it and said wtf? before uninstalling it.

I liked the thread about judging people on twitter more than I like the thread about how my shitty console was better than your shitty console from a decade ago.

Although I did enjoy the bit where some guy said Schild is literally Nixon. Internet forums are serious business.

What I'm saying is this is a bad thread.

Personally, I don't think anything should happen to the guy because he didn't say anything that wasn't true or proprietary information. Engineers and Devs should flat out be able to say a platform sucks if they want to with no repercussions. What's Nintendo going to do? Say EA can't make games for the WiiU?

Believe me, I have no intentions into going into an exchange of insults with the admin. I've already said my peace.

But but but... a company is at Steak, you must continue!

Anyways, this discussion is stupid.  There is a clear difference between this and the Adam Orth retardation.  Adam Orth was a creative director adamently insulting a huge population of players who don't live in major cities.  Adam Orth was also a creative director at Microsoft, which means he was in a position to decide how and where things went (I can't remember if he was specifically with the XBox division though or which division).

This idiot is just a random senior engineer.  Senior doesn't mean shit except he's been in the job for a while.  His word carries no weight (at least not from title alone).  He also didn't insult the player base, he just spouted that one of the console is shit, which isn't nearly as big of a deal.

Non-story.

And if you're going to blast them for the RROD, then I'm going to remind you that the PS2's earliest models also enjoyed a staggeringly high failure rate, to the point where Sony lost a class-action lawsuit about it. But nobody remembers that, I suppose.
There are people who are playing consoles today who weren't even alive when that issue happened. It's not really relevant anymore, which is why no one brings it up.

My poorly, poorly timed donation drive is suffering at the hand of Hex.

Edit: I'm like, secretly a little upset but at the end of the day don't really care as I just want to play Hex right now yesterday.

But I repeat myself.

* Invoke not "his settings should have been tighter," for that is the "she shouldn't have worn that dress" argument of online privacy debates. Don't be that guy.
I think that's entirely different level of argument -- it's not that "his settings should've been tighter" but there is simply nothing private about Twitter feeds, period. You post there with full knowledge it's for the whole world to see.

It's like streaking across the field on the Super Bowl night, then getting upset people are commenting the size of your butt.

I was talking to my sister who has 3 young kids and she said loves the Wii, as they are great fun, the kids can play away with them and it has loads of games. She said she probably wouldn't bother getting the Wii U though as its way too expensive for what you get and all the atachments cost extra, and she said she might get an Xbox or something when the kids are a bit older.

My experience with my kids was exactly this. Nintendo for when they're small, XBox/PS3 when they're preteens and up.

Its perfectly possible to agree with both of you.

- the chap tweeting this should have known better for his own sake.
- the "press" making hay with it are pond scum.

That's fair.

I like that if I say something stupid on this forum, people say, "You're stupid, STFU," rather than running off to tattle-tale to my employer to get me in trouble. I make games because I like games. I talk about games with other gamers because I like games. I don't do this because I want to be a rock star or stalked by tabloid shitheels. I am not a community manager. I am not a public relations representative. I'm a grunt, not a general. I don't want to live my online life with the same sort of fear and paranoia the "generals" do, unable to show my face or say anything.

If I had to wear my "professional" hat 24/7, I wouldn't be able to post here or anywhere else. I wouldn't be able to discuss politics or what I'm playing. I wouldn't be able to interact with gamers. I'd have to become the "ivory tower" dev, and sacrifice my life outside of my job.

And I would go insane.

Nothing in this post represents the views of my current or previous employers.

Welcome to every other profession with liability.  If it touches on your work, be careful about commenting on it because it can come back to bite you bad.  You see the lawyers and accountants here do that all the time and they haven't gone crazy.  Well, most.

This is part of being a 'grown up' field and something the Hi-Tech sector has always appeared to to me as trying really hard to resist. They're not going to get to for much longer.

Liability is the key word.  Especially if you work for a large corporation.

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

Why a person wouldn't use a pseudonym for Twitter is beyond me. Pseudonyms free people so they may speak their minds, provided it is not known who their employer is. If it is not known who their employer is, it is highly unlikely to hurt the employer, and hence for the employer to hurt the employee.

You just have to be careful about disparaging people in your sector. It's not that complicated. I don't run roughshod over other CPAs, accounting firms, or the general price of services. I don't find it to be that constraining.

That being said, I absolutely refuse to post in the politics thread. I have no business doing that when I work on government related stuff.

Did someone seriously, in a serious manner, without any irony...compare twitter users to rape victims?

In fact, no. But I can see how you could turn it into a straw man fallacy that looks like that.

While that is very sensible from any personal perspective, it is also one of the reasons that political discussion across society is.... not very well informed.

I assume that's why the dates are circled.  The game was released April 26th, but there's achievements from January and March on the profile.

Because people who are informed don't participate? Or because people who participate are by nature uninformed?

Plato summed that up nicely for me, "Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something."

and "One of the penalties of refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors."
