Q: When will Cube World be released?
A: I'm currently tuning and fixing everything but I don't know how long it will take and can't estimate a release date.

Q: How many people are working on this game?
A: I started this as a small hobby project in June 2011. Since May 2012 we are a team of two developers.

Q: Can I help with programming, graphics, sound, music etc?
A: Thanks, but I want to do everything by myself.

Q: Which platforms are supported?
A: Currently just Windows PC. Mac support is planned in the future.

Q: Which games inspired you?
A:
- Minecraft: Endless random world made up of blocks
- Zelda, Secret of Mana, Landstalker, Monster Hunter and more: Style, gameplay, overall feel
- Diablo, World of Warcraft: RPG elements
- And many more

Q: Which features do you still want to add?
A:
- Player customization: I'm planning to add player customization whith different faces, hair styles etc.
- Classes: I'm planning to add a mage class next and more classes in the future
- Different playable races
- Quests: A variety of different quests
- Items: Different weapons, armor and other items
- Building: Different blueprints and materials
- Weapon/Armor upgrading system
- Different pets

Q: Is there multiplayer support?
A: Yes, you can do everything in the game cooperatively with friends. I can't say anything about maximum players per server because it still needs to be optimized and tested.

Q: Will you add mining/building/crafting?
A:
- I'm not planning to add mining or digging.
- House building is supported.
- I will probably add a crafting system that allows you to craft weapons and armor from loot dropped by monsters.

Q: How do you create this game?
A: I've programmed everything with C++ and DirectX (OpenGL for the first version). For the voxel sprites, I created my own voxel editor.

Q: Will the final game still be called "Cube World"?
A: Probably not. It's currently just the project name. I'll have to come up with a new name soon.

Q: Will it be free?
A: No.

There's a separate server application and everyone will be able to host his own server. It's currently Windows-only but a Linux port should be no problem because it has basically no dependencies except Winsock.

The Cube World is divided into different lands (of course randomly generated ones). Each land has a level and all creatures living in that land have the same level. The land level increases with distance from the starting position.

Each land has a capital city and is inhabited by NPCs. They have quests, sell items or just talk about random stuff. :) Each city has a center place where all shops and other useful buildings are located.

Today I started with a house building system. The idea is that you will find construction plans during your adventure. There will be architect NPCs that will sell them or you can find them in treasure chests. Each construction plan allows you to create a 10x10x10 building piece, like a wall, a corner, a windowed wall, a roof etc. You can place them with a 3D cursor.

There will be different architecture types. I just implemented a 'framework house' architecture and you can see it in the screenshots below. I plan to add other architectures like elven and dwarven architecture. You can combine different architectures and some of them will be very rare.

The overall idea is that you're able to build and extend your home and fill it with trophies and treasures that you find during your adventure. I also want to add a way to teleport back home.

Cube World: Explorers

Cube World: Multiplayer Adventures

Cube World: Monsters

Hay Sky, you wanted the next Minecraft. I think this may be it.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

I'm pleased to see that this will be multi-player and not a MMO. I find multi-player fits my needs much better than MMOs do. So self hosting and playing this with friends seems like it would be a blast. Its got adventure, action, appreciable look and even sandbox elements.

I look forward to this. In fact, I wish more RPG games would allow multiplayer hosting ALA Minecraft. But that's another thread.

This doesn't look like Minecraft other than BLOCKS.  Looks more like 3D Dot Game Heroes.

That said, when I watched the video, I came and started farting.

I've been following this for a while now, and it's kind of insane the body of work that the two people working on this game have done. I super super appreciate the randomly generated, host your own world style that is borrowed from Minecraft, but with that magic pixie RPG dust layer on it.

The Alpha is out. It's 15 euros / 20 bucks and you get all future updates Minecraft-style - but the server is being absolutely annihilated.

Can you host your own servers or does this depend on their infrastructure for the game running too?

If you can host your own servers, is there a lunix version of the server?

Would depend on how compelling the game is (still can't even create an account on their site to try to buy it, so evaluating that may be a ways out) and what kind of resources it needs server-side to run well (how much is a suitable VPS instance going to cost).

Didn't one of the videos state that multiplayer is capped at 5?

That would make an f13 server limited to 5 people or is it 5 concurrent users?

On the website right now it says multiplayer is 2-4 people and that they are experimenting with a version that is more "Massive" (not to be confused with MMO I suppose).
