Last night I turned on the TV and couldn't escape the number of fat people crying on it. Every commercial channel was fat people crying.

This thread and what's discussed in Tale's link explains rather well why I don't watch network TV at all (and haven't for 10+ years). While cable has a huge amount of dross on it, you can (usually) find something interesting amongst the doco channels. Though Discovery Channel has slowly become the shitty "reality" show channel with 101 variations on American Chopper, but featuring guns, auctioneers, pawnshops, whateverthefuck...
