Get ready for a surprise! Total Recall is being made into an MMO.

Michael Ironside, Ronnie Cox and three fabulous boobs - you know what I'm talking about. It's Total Recall, of course, the classic 1990 action flick that stars Arnold Schwarzenegger but that's made awesome by Ironside, Cox, Sharon Stone in her prime and the most famous sci-fi tits in history, not to mention some insanely over-the-top violence. And now, believe it or not, it's about to become an MMO.

Developed by SEE games and ZQGame, the browser-based Total Recall MMO will be free-to-play with microtransactions, PvP and PvE action, and a "collaborative memory quest system," whatever that means.

"Total Recall is an international phenomenon; we know this well-known property will make a great 3D browser based game," said Mark Caplan, vice president at Sony Pictures Consumer Products Inc. "Total Recall will offer fans of the franchise and gamers alike an engaging and authentic experience - one that will deliver everything that the fans expect and will dovetail perfectly with the upcoming film."

Yes, sadly, the new game will apparently be based on the upcoming remake starring Colin Farrell and not the great Arnie film. Don't feel bad if that squashes any interest you might have had in this game; the new movie doesn't even have a Richter and how can you make a Total Recall film without "See you at the pahty, Richter?" It just doesn't work.

The press release said nothing about a release date but the crappy new movie [and yes, I've already made up my mind on that] comes out on August 3, 2012, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it land around the same time. So keep your eyes peeled for it - and I'll see you at the pahty!

I think we can add this to the list that includes the:

 - Playboy MMO
 - Michael Jackson MMO
 - Buffy MMO
 - Firefly MMO

and a bunch of others that get the press release and don't see the light of day (or come out as a Facebook app).

Get your ass to Mars!

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

 awesome, for real

Total Recall is loosely (very loosely) based on a Phillip K. Dick story (Bladerunner, Minority Report, etc. etc. etc. were all based on Dick shorts).  I think the remake is trying to bring more of the short story in.

Really, Total Recall is awesome because it's from the period where Verhoeven could balance popcorny action and humor, while still including many subversive elements.  Not as good as Robocop, and about the same level as Starship Troopers (Doogie in the SS uniform!)

The majorty of the short story is already there.  They added the whole alien device thing just to pad the movie out in the first place.  Not a lot to work with, otherwise.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.

I wonder if your "class" selection will be done by chosing which "vacation program" you have installed at the beginning.
