So is it basically going to work like normal playoffs, with the winners advancing and the losers sulking? With the winner of it all being able to sneer that it's better to win the failoffs than come in second in the playoffs? |

That's what the Loser Bowl is all about. Losing by winning. |

I'd hope it's just like a normal tournament for people who suck. To see who sucks the least. |

I was hoping that the losers advance, not the winners. Thereby giving us (well, me) more games. |

The problem is that trying to lose on purpose is very/too easy. It's a fun concept, but hard to put in practice. Also, low AV teams (     ) can't even do it in a fun way without crippling themselves for the next season. Trying to "win" the match is, at the same time, the best way to try to survive and take care of your players. We can't even make special rules, like "only 5 players on the field" or "You have to throw" or "you cannot throw" cause all those things are alawys and only going to favour some teams over others. I'd say let's enjoy some additional Blood Bowl and buckle up for Season #5! (September, alas...) |

Run it as a swiss pairing tournament with 4 rounds. Everyone gets 4 matches increasingly against equal opposition and at the end you gave a 1-16 ranking useful for future seeding.
In fact, you might as well do the same for the playoffs.

Just to expand on this. Have the first round play out as seeded above. Second round, winners play winners, losers play losers. Third and forth round, ties are drawn so that everyone plays someone with the same number of wins. After four rounds, you'll have 1 winner on 4 wins, 4 players on 3 wins, 6 players on 2 wins, 4 on 1 win, and a wooden spoon champion on zero wins. Ties are normally broken by calculating the average win % of the opponents you've faced (indicating the difficulty of your route to x wins). As well as getting everyone 4 rounds to play, only one person can finish the season on no wins, and it has all the benefits of both winner advances and loser advances. I don't mind commissionering this if Falc wants to concentrate on the playoffs. |

Okay, so what exactly are the tie breakers again?  I don't know if I saw it announced as being any different than last year, so I assume that makes me #5 in my division, since I have one more TD than Gruntle? |

Sorry everyone, this Failoff will run as "intended". Next Season, we'll see. Eldaec's idea is solid. |

My team finally has enough block to be competitive to go along with a +5 str Saurus.  I still don't think I'll make it out of the 1st round but I might be able to at least hurt the orcs.  Even though I have 1 fewer wins this season than last season, I got more players to level up, though I do miss my lvl 3 undead Mummy.  If all goes well and I don't lose anyone I might carry this team over to next season. |

Looks like I rolled doubles for my Saurus that leveled up.   Should I take +1 str or block?  I already have a +5 str Saurus so I'm leaning towards block. |

Hmm.  I ended up going with block after reading a few BB articles on the Cyanide site and the BB Tactics site (Coach seems to know what he's talking about).  I was VERY tempted to go with the +1 str, though. |

Block is always better for consistency but +1 str is the best for long term build.    |

Yeah, that's a pretty big tradeoff for a relatively small increase in short-term consistency. If Sauruses didn't get general skill access it would be a different story -- you almost always want to take Block over +Str on any Big-Guy-esque player -- but Block is just one level away. Of course, already having +str on another Saurus does mitigate it a little, but still.
