Here is chain of events for you:

1. You link your Steam profile to Facebook
2. You happen to play mmorpg(like Rift)/Grand Theft Auto or any other "objectionable" game.
3. Google indexes your Facebook profile, plus links all your game-related banter, including your high-visability "viability of a wizard in end-game dragon killing" thread.
3. You apply for a job or promotion
4. HR person does simple Google search, sees you play WoW-like game and very active at it
5. You don't get position/promotion

Let me restate it, in hopes that some of you mouthbreathers will hear it:

Mixing your leisure activities, especially such stigma-inducing activity as PC gaming, with your identity is fundamentally bad idea. You might as well post pictures of snorting coke on your open profile or admitting to doing "hard time", it is just as damaging. No, this isn't logical, rational or fair but that how world works.

Well no, I think Merusk brought up something along these same lines (work stuff, not the cocaine) during some Facebook tanget to RealID thread a while back.

While my response is still "Good. I didn't want to work for those assholes anyway.", I'm eighty-four times more confident about saying that in a situation where it's already opt-in instead of some horrible dystopian hypothetical.

Please explain how this is not solved by simply setting your profile to "private"?

Also, so glad that doing something like that to help decide promotions at my employer is actually prohibited - they have to stick to the evaluation reports, and there's no space to put in crap like this unless it's actually having an impact on your work AND your boss actually knows why.

He always strikes me as channeling Rorscarch/Walter Kovacs from Watchmen, right down to the doomcasting sign and the writing style. I'm not sure it's unintentional.

While I agree that linking your Steam/WoW/etc profile to Facebook is a bit of a Derptastic move, I'm actually making a good name for myself in my field through the integration of gaming. Guess I can kiss those leadership positions goodbye!  why so serious?

After being a raid leader, I would certainly give a raid leader a leg up on paper. In the interview I would determine if they were THAT type of leader.

Yes, make sure to put "-50 DKP" on your resume. I also suggest dressing up for the interview. Wear your warlock costume.

Depending on his profession, the concerns can definitely be legitimate.  I think he's gone a bit over the top with the doomsday scenario of someday steam connects to facebook and your professional life falls apart, but there are definitely some professions out there where gaming is very looked down upon.

I picked up one of the indie packs awhile back and browsing through the achievements I found this one.

Support Indie Developer like us by telling your friends on Facebook about A.R.E.S.

It would be interesting to see what kind of percentage a big name game (like say Dragon Age) would get.  I'm just hoping we don't see anything in terms of "like us on Facebook to unlock an exclusive TF2 hat" or similar DLC related connectivity.

Sure. I personally don't think it's the kind of thing to be flaunting on Facebook, and I'm lucky to be in an unusual situation where the gaming thing is helping my career, but even in situations where it's a negative, I'm not sure that it's quite on a par with being a convicted rapist.

If you do link your FB profile to Steam for the ticket, you can always then deny access to Steam from FB straight away. Nothing gets posted from what I can see.
