So apparently Front Mission Evolved is on sale. I like mechs, but...the videos don't give much of an indication of gameplay - any opinions?

It's closer to Armored Core than the old Front Mission games, but still pretty terrible.

I dunno about terrible, there's just nothing really great about it.  The aesthetic is kind of boring, the scenario is goofy, the dialogue ranges from predictable cliche to WTF bad, but the gameplay itself is passable.  You point at stuff, it dies.  There's a half second delay on everything you do because MECHA, but otherwise it's fairly standard third person shooter stuff.  Probably the game's biggest failing is that it's just so vanilla.  The robots look generic, the guns are generic, the setting is generic, the characters are all generic, the story (as far as I've gotten) is generic.  Not bad per se, and there's not a lot of options if you're looking for a Mech game, though, so might be worth $7 depending on how bad you need that particular itch scratched.

Any of the PS2 era Armored Core games would serve you better. I guess if you need something on PC, maybe... I'm just bitter at what they did with the franchise, really, since FM used to be a very good SRPG series and now its a generic third person shooter. Hell, play Transformers: War for Cybertron if you want robot action.

Solid title, good single player. Last I played though, lacking in MP servers, however I do not own the DLC map packs...so, maybe thats it.

Hopefully it being $5 now will help improve the number of people playing it.  I know I and a number of friends all picked it up.

What is it ? The trailer/video on the shop page looked like a 1st/3rd person shooter of some kind ?

It's a multiplayer first person shooter thing.  I haven't played Prejudice, but the original was kind of half Halo, half Tribes, if I remember right.

I played the original and thought it was pretty crap, but people seem to be drooling over Prejudice so what the heck, why not.

Prejudice is a far cry from the original in almost all aspects.  Conquest mode is tits.

I thought it was the original that was generally regarded as a bit crap.

FYI, Metro 2033 is on sale today for $5.  I had some fun with it when it was released but there were a number of bugs that stopped me from playing.  Hopefully they have those worked out by now.  The graphics and were very good and the story was entertaining.  For $5 its worth checking out.

Grabbed that action indie game for $3.33 and it wouldn't fucking run. Crashed upon running..what the hell? Last time I'm buying 3D indie shit.
Cheered myself up with purchasing Counterstrike full pack. It's been a while since I played it.

That's going to deprive you of so many good games. Especially since indie games aren't any more or less buggy than those from big publishers.

Borderlands game of the year pack for under $8.  2 days and I've already gotten my money's worth.  Still many months of enjoyment to go.

Civ 5 is $12.50.  Anyone comment on how this version compares to Civ 3?  Is Civ 5 worth buying?

Wow. Comparing it to Civ 3 makes your question a l0t more difficult. Personally, I'd tend towards the "no" side of the question though. I found Civ 5 to be very disappointing and without the addictive replayability of its predecessors.

Picked up Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.  $10 for a Criterion (Burnout) developed racing game that got good reviews and came out less than a year ago seemed like a no-brainer.  Probably won't get around to playing it until I'm done with Dead Island though.

Thanks.  That's kind of what I figured, but I wanted a second opinion.  Looks like I'll spend the $12.50 on something else.

I dunno, I've gotten probably 40 hours out of Civ V, and I'm not a huge fan (Steam ate some of my logged hours a couple weeks ago). I know over time I'll dip in for occasional game, so over time I'll get more than my money's worth...at day 1 pricing. For 12.50, I'd buy it again. I was even eyeing the 2-pack DLC I don't have (ancient wonders and korea), some of the DLC is fun (polynesia, vikings and iroqouis, yay).

I'd say I like it better than pre-BtS Civ IV, without mentioning That Mod.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly? Make sure you've got a pc that will run it, my C2D 3Ghz e6600/4GB ddr2 800/gtx 460 struggles badly by 1950 or so...visible redraw of the map when scrolling across it...

Bought PuzzleQuest over lunch today.  It is 3 bucks or something.  I'd heard good things about it for a long time and figured it was worth a stab.  Did one game on the first quest and it seems fun.  I should get 3 bucks out of it very quick.

Yeah, got it myself as well, love it. Got the second one awhile back on some deal, and well, I don't feel that one was worth it. They messed up a good formula there.

Yep, got some time with PQ last night and can immediately see the obsession potential.  "Just one more battle," will now be my new "Just one more turn" from my strategy game obsession days (4 a.m. anyone?)

Bah, can't fool anyone on that.  I'm too old now.  I will literally fall asleep in my chair if I don't log out for bedtime anymore.

So it seems the whole Star Wars collection is on sale this weekend.

At this point, which of those games are worth buying? Some of them look interesting, but I'm in no mood to drop $50 for a bunch of games I'll never play or have aged terribly.

Republic Commando is a pretty good FPS and Empire at War is a fun RTS game, esp. the space battles.  Battlefront 2 was a favourite of mine for awhile but its primarily a multiplayer game and I don't know ow many people still play it.  The rest are either too old (Dark Forces) or not good enough (Republic Heroes) to interest me.

I picked up Mirror's Edge for five bucks based on someone in the World of Tanks clan saying it was good.

Best five dollar game I have ever played.

I liked the idea of the game, but this comic illustrates almost perfectly my major problem with the game.  The controls feel very...awkward...for me.  Even so I don't regret buying it cause I got it on a sale myself a long time ago, but I haven't managed to ever finish it.
