Your post sums up my attitude also.

It just didn't work for me anymore and I couldn't even tell you why.

Oh look, it's the console port that nobody saw coming  awesome, for real

And the FAQ. Pertinent bits for PC players:

Quote
Will my progress/characters/anything transfer over to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One?

There are no plans for any transfers to be given from PC to Console.

Will PC and console players be able to play together?

Due to the differences from our PC version to our console versions, the ability to play across platforms is not available.

The really pertinent part is that they are not launching with all the PC content.

So I expect the glacial development rate on the PC version will stay glacial while they focus on catching up console players.

I don't see the PC version being anything other than an alpha/beta test for console stuff from now on.  It's been pretty fucking obvious for a while now that they've milked all they can from the PC whales and are quite happy to burn their bridges with the vast majority of them to chase the console crowd.  I guess it makes sense from a short-term business perspective but I don't see it working out long-term.

The hilarious part is that they're still insisting that the BUE wasn't driven by the console port when anyone with half a fucking brain knew it was the reason for it months ago.

So game wins most improved game (deservedly so) a few years ago.

Do they have to give the award back after the shit they've turned it in to?

Given they didn't update the name of the game on the PC I think they've already conceded that.

The name update is happening when the actual omega update is done, even they are not that dumb.

I think the game is actually improved with the things they have done. They just messed up on some of the heroes and a few decisions. Apparently the console version has UI improvements like " It'd be VERY useful if the skills the talents affected would highlight on mouseover" that was said earlier. Hopefully those make it to the PC side.

For the most part i liked the changes too, it just wasn't enough to get me to start playin a game i already put 4000 hours into again.

I like levelling dudes more than I used to - mostly because of the story changes - though also because of the lower overhead trying powers.

but everything end game is painful.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. I liked the endgame before, the changes have made it suck. Leveling is more fun now, but the push of anti-heroes this last year killed my desire to buy any new characters. Consequently, since I've leveled everyone I was interested in I stopped playing.

Well they are pretty much scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as heroes go, I believe the next character is Carnage and after that Odinson.

There's still a shitton of mutants to nab, aren't there? Running down the list of Heroes I know also still have:

Firestar, Dazzler, Cloak, Dagger, Elektra, Quicksilver, Cannonball, Bishop, Nick Fury, Shaman, Angel, Mystique, Silver Samurai, Captain Britain, Mockingbird, Guardian, Armor, Namor, Banshee, Wiccan, Talisman, and Polaris

Most of those are very bottom of the barrel or problematic to do (they've said speedsters have too many issues, and I don't see how you can do mystique).

So it looks like this is dead unless Kotaku is full of shit... Disney terminates relationship with Gazillion
Quote
“We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.”

I guess it's not a big surprise - if true - considering what happened with the game over the last year and some recent drama, but still... /sadf

e: yep, confirmed by a more reputable source than Kotaku. Rocket and his Army of Groot is sad. (also, that new CEO sounds like a techbro trash fire... where do they GET these guys?)

Well that's sad.  Still, the changes to the game and focus on anti-heroes killed the game long before this for me. Glad I didn't go for the big character package more than the first year.

ed: Shit, reading the reddit comments I hadn't even realized the Console version is less than a year old. A LOT of console gamers got burned by blowing money on a game that's defunct a few months in.

Yeah that's too bad. I enjoyed my time in the game, though. I wonder how much Omega killed their momentum or if there was something else going on like the implied internal politics which caused them to piss off Disney.

As soon as I saw someone had posted something new in this thread, I had a feeling this was what it was going to be even before opening it.  It's not really a surprise since it's quality really took a nose dive with the big update about a year ago.  I have almost 500 hours played but uninstalled the game shortly after trying the changes.  The whole company seems to have turned into a giant dumpster fire after David Brevik left, leaving the gamer version of Harvey Weinstein in charge.  Oh well, I had fun while it lasted and got my money's worth out of it.

The timing is seriously coincidental. I just last night uninstalled the game, figuring if I hadn't played in a year I wasn't going to play at all anymore. I had no idea the dumpster fire that the company had become.

But I have to say this is making me real hesitant about spending any money on any more Marvel/Disney games that require an online connection, especially after the mobile game that was unceremoniously shut down with a month's notice. Which I was playing. And enjoying.

Marvel/Disney seems to have a near NCsoft level of appreciation for their players.

To be honest I always doubted this was going to survive the contract expiring in 2019, Disney much prefer licensing arrangements where they pass off broad categories of products to other large corporations - hence EA. I can't imagine current gazillion management is capable of dealing with Disney licensing with anything like the manner the Rat expects.

My guess is that this stopped taking in much cash on the day Gaz stopped dancing  with the one what brung them. Disney probably pointed out that there would be no new deal and at that point, why bother maintaining the facade.

Bloody hell - they aren't messing about.

Shutdown is 31st December.

In the meantime, everything now costs 50 currency. You get 1000 currency every day you log in.

Funny thing is, this actually makes me want to reinstall and log back in before the finish. Hell, I stopped playing *before* the Omega patch, for all I know I'm that one guy who would have liked the changes...

I enjoyed this, but I am not surprised to see it go.

I might patch it up and zip around for the last month or two.  It could be fun to play when the people running it no longer give any fucks and decide to give away the farm to players as a last huzzah.

Technically you could consider Disney Infinity another canceled super hero game.
