Gazillion's Marvel MMO - F2P, Play as existing Marvel characters only

I started playing again recently after discovering they have a Wiccan skin that completely transforms Scarlet Witch, who has proven to be a fantastic character.

However, I noticed over at PA they were commenting on how the game is actually doing quite poorly despite the big turnaround - player numbers continually falling, content delayed and lack lustre, and Gaz in need of extra financing and laying off staff. Feeling there seems to be they have prioritised short term income with extra heroes and costumes over making the game more playable in the long term.

Also interesting how the movies give them a big boost in player numebrs, which almost immediately drops off. This is not surprising at all, as the game is *insanely* confusing to new players nowadays. They need to streamline a lot of it - just the packages and crap you get from starting the game is overwhelming.

Heck, I was only gone a few months and I was seriously confused at all the new things they added. I got a notification telling me to go to Limbo but couldn't figure out how to get in or what to expect once I did, there was a new hub with some sort of poorly-implemented reputation system and no explanation of why I should care, and all my teamups needed to be leveled but I didn't know how to do that or if it actually mattered. And that was after skimming through all the patch notes.

I think this is endemic to the sort of frenetically-paced, rapid-turnaround development they do at Gazillion (see also: Warframe, Dungeon Defenders). They haven't really done any game design in years - they're constantly putting out features that they think the current player base will find cool, which is great for the current player base, but they never stop and look at the product in a vacuum and consider whether they're making it better or worse. Things like the defense itemization and story mode revamps are good but in general Gaz obsoletes features faster than they revamp them.

It's still not the worst strategy in the world - it got a bunch of play hours and a moderate chunk of cash out of me - but I wish they'd show a little more design discipline. They could cut out a half dozen of the game's major systems tomorrow and not lose anything of value.

If you get a duplicate Doom team up today, you can swap it for an ultimate upgrade at the crafter. I think this is in fact the only way to get it out of your inventory.

I got a scarlet witch token yesterday.  I already had her unlocked, so hooray for ult upgrade, I guess.

Right now I'm battling the inventory (isn't that always the case.)  I really need to either vaporize literally all the garbage I have, or break down and buy currency to unlock more stash space.

More stash space isn't worth it, you just fill it up and say, "Shit I need more space."

I say this as a guy who bought all the crafting tabs before they converted.

If you're not prestige-rolling then you really only need 4 tabs. One for runes, one for artifacts you aren't actively dropping on a hero, one for consumables, and one for "holy shit that was an awesome roll" non-specific uniques.

Anything like relics shouldn't be saved because chances are you're not anywhere near 1000 on a single hero and there's only a few useful ones. With no conversion or trade-in just sell the shitty ones. Ditto danger room scenarios.

Costume Cores and Uru items only keep one of each and only if the core has Invincibility on it. Just trash them otherwise. The rest is just space-wasting garbage. Medallions, Crafting Mats, Stark Cubes. If you're not actively using them just toss them. The chances of them being usable in the future are less than their drop rate.

Hell, the only reason I actively use so many tabs is I have too goddamn many heroes. I've got uniques up the ass I should be trading-in for Runes, Artifacts and Cash but just can't be bothered to do so.

I think its like 4 of the same unique for 50 of a random relic.

I've done the box of rune trades enough times that I am fairly certain that you will not get any of the valuable runes, unless you have hundreds of duplicate uniques.

What they said. There's several recipes under the "Exchange" tab of your crafter.

They need 2, 3, 4 or 5 of the same unique (any level) depending on the recipe.

It's random on the runes or relics and I've never gotten a Tyr, Thor, Odin, Loki or Doop rune. I gave up on run chasing and just exchange for cash or relics now. (Or a "usable Unique" if I don't need cash and have a hero who's just hit 60)

I admit, I haven't really done much with the game other than "put points in skills, beat up mans, get loots."

Rerolling stats on rare artifacts mostly, also costume affixes and very rarely on uniques (this one only if it's something not readily available like a fragment of twilight, everything else you are better off getting more drops than rerolling).

Leveling up uniques you find with awesome stats but are below 60 also takes a heap of credits.  I had a Scarlet Witch or Dr Doom unique from leveling that was 100% on three rolls and above 50% on the rest that dropped at level 35ish.  You bet I leveled that one up at 40, 50 and 60.

Got Kitty Pryde from a random box (though I remember her as Shadowcat, maybe it was a different era or just translated differently into Hungarian) and got her to 60 during the 100% bonus xp period. Holy crap, it almost feels like cheating. Interrupting boss abilities and chaining together like 15 seconds of invulnerability on demand... with some insane mobility and perma HP leech on top? I'll buy that for a dollar 175 shards! Her sustained damage and burst doesn't seem that high compared to someone like Moon Knight, but I'll take multiple sources of RNG-free invincibility over slightly faster TTK tyvm.  

Kinda sad that her Lockheed build sucks, though. I tried it for a while, but it's just too clunky and (more importantly) squishy compared to phasing/ninjutsu... is there anything I'm missing, like special gear or sommat?

Basically that being incredibly tanky is unimportant when every character can easily do all content without worrying about it, and her slightly subpar dps is the only thing that counts.  I really like kitty and had fun playing her, but the reason you don't hear as much about her like say Wanda or Doom is that she doesn't put up the pretty red numbers like they do.

Got two Tyr runes yesterday while doing MM with my Dr Doom summoner build. I'd chugged the free winter boost potion and they were both from the yellow boxes you get when you get 5 stacks of the winter buff.

Put a Heartbreaker on my Scarlet Witch as a result

I think that's what keeps me from playing her more often. I'm also finding Magik is getting on my nerves a bit nowadays and have gone back to Witch and Doom as my mainstays.

There's a couple of theories. Either not a lot of money, he genuinely wants to go back to developing, or financial director from EA they hired last year is EA'ing the place up.

I don't see how they can be making much at all.

Game is easy to play for free, and no real way for whales to pay way over the average to make up for it.
