My friend linked me to this. It's the forum where banned Xbox Live users go to try and appeal their bans, only to have the Microsoft staff own their asses publicly. It's pretty pedestrian sometimes, but other times...

Quote from: some dipshit teenager who got banned
listen whats is so messed up is that this account here had same info and all i got was code of conduct so i want answer why did one account get a warning and my other account get banned.... this is not right

Quote from: xbox admin having fun at work
Thank you for pointing out our oversight, the matter has been corrected and a permanent suspension has been issued.  We apologize for any confusion.

I have called Xbox about this and they told me to place this post. I need to know what my son did to get banned, whether he has been hacked, or wheter this is a mistake. When he got home from school today he had an error message about the billing option on his account and it said he was suspended. But we have a family pack of accounts and he is the only one getting this message. His bio and motto also say code of conduct. Xbox live told me to post this info and reference number to determine whether it is a code of conduct suspension or a mistake. They said you could look up the documentation with the number. The affected gamertag is: UNS33N PROD1GY

Your son's account was suspended for sending death threats to Xbox Staff and also admitting to scamming Xbox users and hosting modified lobbies.

The volume of people banned and appeals, I'd say this is the best route. Entertaining too.

Edit: Spend 5 minutes on the forum, Trippy. You'll see what I mean.

Actually, no.  Your account was permanently suspended for the harassment of Xbox LIVE staff.

The First Amendment of the Constitution for the United States of America only applies to government censorship, not to private enterprise.  Microsoft, as a private entity, has the right to choose what is and is not acceptable on their service.  This is outlined quite clearly in the Code of Conduct and Terms of Use.  Sending a direct message to anyone wherein you express your severe racism, homophobia and use excessive profanity is grossly unacceptable, and warrants a harassment suspension.  The fact that you decided to send it to me, on top of that, shows a distinct lack of judgement and common sense.

The suspension will stand as issued.  Further contact with Xbox LIVE employees or violations of the Code of Conduct will result in addional action being taken against your accounts, consoles, forum use or person. Cheers.
Cheers!

I'll just post in the bans and suspension forum to ask about a technical issue and while I'm there I'll explain how I'm breaking the Terms of Service. I wonder what could go wrong?

My friend modded my gamerscore a while back and what happened is that it got reset. When it got reset all my game data had been corrupted. I tried to make a new account so I switched my e-mail address to a new account but, I figured out you cannot transfer licenses to a new account so what I did was switch back the e-mail address and the stuff weren't corrupted anymore. I modded something for my avatar skin color, eyebrow, hair, etc. and after purchasing a pair of shorts on the avatar marketplace and after I left it I didn't have any Bio, Motto, Gamerpic, etc. When I go to play Halo: Reach I can't change any settings and it gives me a message saying that it can't save any information to my memory unit and it may be because I don't have it plugged in properly.

I got a reference number after calling someone from XBOX Live, The number is: 1148083163
Please try to fix this problem, Thanks.

After reviewing your post, you have blatantly admitted that you have modded your avatar. Your account has already been subject to action taken against it, due to your gamerscore being modded, as is illustrated by the cheater mark on your public profile on xbox.com. You have posted in the Policy Enforcement Team's forum (the team that enforces the rules on Xbox Live), stating in no uncertain terms that you have indulged in systems tampering, which is a violation of the rules subject to a permanent suspension of an account, with no potential for dispute. Looking at your avatar, neither your skin nor hair color are available through the Avatar Editor. I apologize for any inconvenience, but we will not be able to assist you with your Halo: Reach issues. Considering that you have outright admitted to modding your avatar, and your profile confirms this fact, your account is permanently suspended for systems tampering, which is a violation of the Code of Conduct and Terms of Use. The suspension will stand as issued with no possibility for appeal.

Hello Legal Dept, First off, my motto on coffindweller27, "Dead Girls Are Easy" is my favorite song by The 69 Eyes. Lead Singer is Jyrki69, drummer Jussi69 from Finland. If you note my name It says Jasonn69. Put 2 & 2 together. I know you have your rules and I've seen how you respond to your customers on here and I will be treated with respect as I will do the same. I have toured Iraq 4x, Afghanistan 2x. I'm a medic/ firefighter, this is ridiculous to convict the accused without fair notice (which in the code of conduct you state: you do not have to give prior warning)but how long will you jump to conclusionns and convictions without fairly investigating the reasoning. This is considered under the first amendment as freedom of speech/ expression. Mine is a song, so what. Dont look at my private info. The internet is a global place of interaction where filters are meant to be used by the hosting community. This is overboard and to censor me by suspension over something in which you never inquired, is completely unfair and against the U.S. Constitution in which YOU do not override. I have served my country, fought for it's rights & I still serve to this day. Even though it is a suspension up to 02/02/2011 it needs to be lifted immediately. I would rather sell my Xbox and get a PS3 where the Network Community is free. I cannot access my Netflix account which is wrong since I pay for it seperately. Whats the point of having an Xbox you cannot use? Or fear of punishment and persecution. I suppose it is interpreted differently, but I didn't write the song. I like it and now I have to explain myself. You need to find a better way of communicating with your customers (because we pay, if you run us off you get no check)I do not mod, try to make MS Points or cheat. I am a fair player and I treat everyone with respect. You did not know the meaning of my motto and reasoning and this is my explanation. I will even do the honor of posting the link to it. If this isnt lifted then you are singling me out. Because I have a logical explanation. Vampire (The 69 Eyes are "vampires" in their vids)+ dead girls= coffindweller27. Hopefully this will be seen in reason and understood and I will be treated with the respect that I deserve, as will you. I respecfully and patiently talked to support for 1 hr & 27 mins. Now just do this much, I will remove it, but i cannot until it is restored. Link below is "Dead Girls Are Easy" by "The 69 Eyes" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7t__1uLXyM Start communicating with those of us with a possible logical explanation and not run straight to a conviction. I have never been in trouble and this is bogus. So a little help and let me know what I am spending all my money on for points & Xbox Gold I have seen names like [Mod Edit]. Those are the things that are serious matters. What of those? So if I post im a soldier and I KILL FOR MY COUNTRY will I be suspended because its true or what? Wheres the difference between that and the song name? Thank You, Jasonn69

2. There is always someone doing something worse, this does not make minor violations any less valid. We enforce all aspects of the Code of Conduct.

3. Regardless of its origin, it implies necrophilia and is therefore a violation of the Code of Conduct and Terms of Use.

I live my live in a little walled Xbox garden, populated only by my real life friends and family. If I play a game that involves the great unwashed (like, say, Halo-ish stuff), I do so with the microphone and voice chat muted.

I try not to notice gamertags.

And this, right here, is why I try so hard not to let Xbox users actually communicate with me unless I already know them.

I also find it amusing that Microsoft issues a 'cheater' tag to people hacking their gamerscore.

I could see this being an ignorance issue, particularly for someone that is used to PC games.  But shit, it is spelled out in their rules pretty plainly.

Here's another good reply.

As you admitted here you were permanently suspended for your modified avatar.  However, in addition to that your bio read as follows, "1600 or $5 PayPal For 10th WaW 100% Legit www.youtube .com/(Mod Edit)" not only violating the Code of Conduct for selling services but also cheating.  Oh, and that was after your previous 6 profile suspensions.

And another:

Quote
True, your account was recently suspended due to the bio being inappropriate content which would have been a temporary suspension...

However...

Back in July, 2010, your account was permanently suspended as you are well aware.  Temporary suspensions do not override permanent suspensions. So your account's suspension should be lifting around 12/31/9999. You may not inquire about this account again until 1/1/10000.

While funny, and somewhat refreshing to see people publicly shamed.

I agree with Trippy that making this information public is not the best thing for Microsoft to be doing.

It sucks, and as far as I can tell, never gets updates.

I play it when really bored -- I got the Orange Box on sale some Black Friday, mostly for Portal. I still haven't gone through all the Half-Life 2 stuff with it.

I do community MP for Halo and occasionally L4D2, if I'm feeling brave. Like I said -- only because I can mute the other people.

I tend to agree. Plus, hacks tend to cause stability issues -- you're screwing around in ways that it wasn't designed for, which is more wear and tear on CS.

Hmmm....I can understand almost everything they've been banning for. But...avatar skin color hacks? Really? That is such a big deal you get permabanned for it? Microsoft ought to open that up and make it into a new marketplace. Let users make stuff for the avatars and sell them.

The number of "banned for avatar changes" threads are depressing.

Overall, I don't agree with the forum, but it seems squarely aimed at the idea that XBL is such shit because nobody's out there cleaning it up. Basically, the forum is proof that they run around banning people for this shit.

They definitely should, and maybe permanent bans for avatar skins is too much- but at the same time, that person has cheated online to get something and should be punished.

For all the people who say that this is unprofessional, I have to wonder what harm is being done to them or their brand by revealing it. That may be a frame of mind that applies more to smaller games than multi-million person networks.

Considering the type of people who appear on this site only seem to be of the type that gives them a bad name simply by being a customer, I don't see how this is bad for them.  Plus, not only is seeing a company actively enforcing their rules a plus sign to people, the sheer awesomeness is attractive to some customers (like me.)
