The article is behind The Wall Street Journal sub wall but here are some nuggets: Last May 9, at two in the morning, Jared Lee Loughner typed a question to a group of about 50 online gamers located around the world: "Does anyone have aggression 24/7?"
He was back at his keyboard the following night. "If you went to prison right now...What would you be thinking?" he asked...
The online-forum messages exhibit a growing frustration that, at 22 years of age, Mr. Loughner couldn't land a minimum-wage job and was spurned by women. By May 15, he wrote, he hadn't had a paycheck in six months. A month later, he wrote that he had submitted 65 applications, yet "no interview."...
His recent online postings are more disturbing. On April 24, he asked: "Would you hit a Handy Cap Child/ Adult?" On May 20 at 12:03 a.m., he remarked: "I bet your hungry....Because i know how to cut a body open and eat you for more then a week. ;-)"...
The postings exhibit fixations on grammar, the education system, government and currency, which some friends and acquaintances have described separately in the days since the attack. They are peppered with displays of misogyny. ...Mr. Loughner posted the messages in a private forum associated with the online game Earth Empires. On Tuesday, the site's administrator in a public forum admonished members for sharing information with the media.
Gaming appears to have been an important part of Mr. Loughner's life. In the 7th grade, he and a friend, Alex Montanaro, began playing the multiplayer online games Starcraft and Diablo, which featured complex virtual worlds where players assume roles and play against other people around the globe, Mr. Montanaro said in emails over the weekend and Monday.
Around the 9th grade, recalls Mr. Montanaro, Mr. Loughner abandoned the old games and started playing Earth: 2025, now called Earth Empires, a text-based game in which players assume the form of a country and develop its economy. Players form clans and battle other clans.
The game includes social networks built around the clan alliances—private online forums in which players conversed. In those forums at that time, Mr. Loughner often spouted conspiracy theories and got into heated debates with others, according to a forum participant who has been reading Mr. Loughner's posts for years. Mr. Loughner originally played under the pseudonyms Cries and Cry. At various times he also used the aliases Heroin, XTC and Erad, according to two people familiar with the matter, and played for various clans. I am sure you can find the whole thing if you want.

Misogyny, aggression and inappropriate comments on a gaming forum? Clearly he and all others like him should be locked up.

If only Reagan hadn't gutted the mental health system we clearly would have had people watching for these obvious signs and Doing Something About It.
If only we had proper gun control background checks where all your online postings were read before you were issued a handgun license.
Wait this is not in politics? I don't remember clicking serious business and there is no way this goes in serious business.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation. -William Gibson

I should get back to nature, too. You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer. Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached. Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

My post specifically ignored all politics and linked this crazy to gaming forums posting and nothing else. Fuck anyone who makes this political.
If you are incapable of seeing how things that many of us post could be construed as crazy after the fact, then you are a douchebag moron. That is why the article amused me and is relevant to Serious Business!

Earth: 2025 actually shared forums together with another large browser game Utopia. One of these subforums was a political forum which was known as a very infamous cesspit which contained a large mix of different people, from a few very cleaver people, to rabies infected extremist of every kind, and trolls.. oh god the trolls! It was known for its lawlessness where everything would go - and I mean everything. Dead babies? no problem. Inciting mass murder of x race? no problem. Personal threats of any kind? no problem - some even going pretty far as posting IP's and personal details of there hated nemesis. All the other forums had mods, and well.. this one had as well but they often burned out less then month after being moved over there/appointed. It was internet savagery and insanity on the same hight as 4chan - just politics instead. But its dead now since Jolt bought the Earth 2025 and Utopia games in.. 2008/2009? That this Mr. Loughner might quite well have posted on this forum before that and that I could have read any of his ramblings back then, is quite a fascinating thought.

What I find amusing, is people looking at this, or his face book stuff, not realizing most is like just for the lolz. Or trying to use it as some sort of profile, ignoring the fact of anonymity makes assholes on the internet.

I just wonder if the fact he posted on internet forums will open this can of worms for aspiring politicians in the future. I expect a significant number of people currently aged 25-40 have posted things on an internet forum that would look and read rather ghastly years later. I know I have, but I have no intention of entering politics. Still, someone saying that at age 25 cannot be sure things won;t change.

My general rule of thumb, since encountering this board, is to post like Nebu if at all possible, or post like I'm talking to friends over a beer. I think he shows an extraordinary ability to make points and not be a total asshole. But yes, the internet age is going to completely change the concept of freedom of speech and also job background checks.

anonymity makes assholes on the internet.
No it doesn't. They're already assholes. Anonymity just lets them act out their inner self without consequences.

I (mostly) agree (no offense! ). Hell, it's practically a feminist utopia compared to basically any other gaming forum I've gone to.

Holy shit, Earth:2025? I played that shit when I was in high school more than 10 years ago. It turned into a cesspool of bots.
Had no idea it was still alive.

We were worried what we think about vaginas, and even more worried that we don’t think about them. We were worried about our own vaginas. They needed a context of other vaginas — a community, a culture of vaginas. There’s so much darkness and secrecy surrounding them — like the Bermuda triangle. Nobody ever reports back from there.

Couldnt pass this up. Jared Lee Loughner Pictures Surface Showing Suspect With Gun, Naked, In 'Bright Red G-String'The photos were turned over to the police by Walgreens, where Mr. Loughner had taken them to be developed. In some of the photos he is holding the gun near his crotch, and in others, presumably shot in a mirror, he is holding the gun next to his buttocks, the police said. It was not yet clear when the photos were taken or whether Mr. Loughner had ordered any prints. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/14/jared-lee-loughner-photos-g-string_n_809329.html

No, what made it crazy was the fact that it was bright red. If the thong had been grey, black, white, silver, chartreuse, aqua, or any other approved colour for male thongs he would have been perfectly normal.
