I don't give a crap about another launcher, especially since I'll be deleting Blizzard's off my PC. However, it will be really easy to wait given that The Outer Worlds and Death Stranding are releasing Oct 25 and Nov 8 respectively. I'll be getting both of those unless they're reviewed rather unfavorably. Obsidian style RPG and Kojima jank are two of my favorite game categories.

When does Outer Worlds release on Steam? Sometime in 2020?

I'll get it when I don't have to give epic money for their shenanigans.

I downloaded the Epic games launcher so I can play the PC version at release. I don't have any religious objections to running more than one launcher. Vast majority of my games are on Steam but a few are on Origin and GOG.

From the steam:

The Outer Worlds will be available on Steam one year after launch on other exclusive digital PC platforms.

So yeah.

Even if you get it earlier, waiting for patches is probably a great idea.

My bet is most of you crumble and give into the Power of the Epic Launcher long before it's released on Steam.  why so serious?

You haven't seen my backlog.

Also, Terraria 1.4 is coming soon.  As well as a new Stardew patch.

I'm perfectly ok with buying stuff off the Epic store. I would have bought Borderlands 3 but ended up not wanting to pay $60 for a game that doesn't sound particularly better than the now seven year old Borderlands 2.

That said, I'll wait and see what the early impressions of Outer Worlds are.

I will crumble and buy something on console like I did for BL3 after all my bitching about it. But Epic launcher won’t ever see my computer, period.

I’m about three steps from moving into a cabin in the wilds anyways, so maybe I don’t need games of the future.

Outer Worlds is also supposed to drop day and date on the Windows Store, so that's going to be the path I take.

If Windows store is an option I'd recommend you buy it anywhere else instead, even if your next best option is buying it from a psychotic hobo living under an underpass in the most crime infested part of your town. The experience will be less horrible and more pleasant than buying it on the Windows store.

If it's part of the Xbox for PC pass on day 1 it's a no brainer. If you are already using the application it's 100% hassle free, and it's basically $5. That is insnae. To me this Windows pass thing keeps being too good to be true (and it is true).

So long every encounter I had with the Microsoft PC store was a total disaster and I've heard to many personal accounts by people who describe similar experiences.
Including confusing error messages, games that wouldn't download, games that wouldn't start and complete re-installation of both store and games.

The xbox-on-windows pass is $1 for the first month right now.

Chance to play all my "enh, maybe someday in a Steam Sale" games for a buck?

Hells yeah.

How does the Xbox pass handle games with DLC though? Like if you play Stellaris, are you restricted to just the vanilla game or do you have to pay for each separate DLC?

It's what you said: restricted to vanilla unless you buy the DLC.  And the games don't stay on xbox-pass forever.  They rotate in and out like Netflix movies.  The FAQ states that if you buy DLC for a pass game, you will be informed a month before it leaves pass, and have the opportunity to buy a full licence at 20% off.

Speaking of not needing new games, 7 Days to Die has released Alpha 18 in the experimental branch. I've found it's always worth another playthrough when a new Alpha drops, as gameplay tends to change quite a bit and they add enough to keep it interesting for a while.

https://7daystodie.com/a18-official-release-notes/

So I'll be adding that into my rotation with Madden and Rocksmith and there ya go. If only a new ambitious single player minecraft mod could drop in a few more months...

Surviving Mars is free at the moment.  I've unleashed some drones on some innocent rock.

It's interesting in a 'oh, this was free' kind of way.

Full free. It's the one (or two) free game a week of the Epic Store.

remind me again why epic is the devil incarnate?

Steam has just pulled it's typical bullshit autoupdate breaking my ARK client so it now cannot see the ARK server it connect to this morning, which is RUNNING ON THE SAME GODDAMN MACHINE, with ZERO indication that the problem is a version mismatch, it's just fucking invisible to me. And I cannot find any way to make it stop doing that. So how the fuck is Epic worse?

Granted the ARK developers are total ignorant fucktards, but the Steam folks seem like slightly more clever but deliberately malicious greedy bastards and I'm not seeing how Steam comes off as robot jezus here while Epic, who supposedly is letting the developers have a bit more of the pie, is lambasted as Evil Inc.

Please clue me in?

Yes, I know I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?

The Epic Store is partly-owned by Tencent, which is mostly owned by the evil bastards Chinese government. Also, the Epic Store has been bribing developers to have store exclusives that include games people actually want to play. Some people don't want to give the Chinese government anymore money than we have to, even indirectly, and some of us hate the fucking idea of store exclusive games because fuck you, I want to play the way I want.

Sweeny posted a few fuck off China posts. We'll see how he holds up to direct pressure but companies meekly bowed for comments less critical than his so it isn't fair to say Epic is bowing to China.

OP is assuming its somewhat of a design-goal of eve to make players happy.
this is however not the case.

Tencent has their hands in a lot stuff so good luck trying to avoid them. I guess it's a good thing that most people here burned out on Conan Exiles already since Tencent just bought a chunk of Funcom.
