You wouldn't put Hex on your list at all? And yeah, I'd be up for doing a new top 20.

I'm up for a new top 20; my list today would be pretty different.

Pretty much. Kinda amusing too, considering the other episodes of the Krynn trilogy weren't that memorable -- DQK highlighted how badly high-level ad&d plays and the maps in CHK were just all over the place.

(I still put POR in my top20 because of reasons... mainly rose-colored-glasses nostalgia)

Looked back at that list. A lot more good things have come out in ten years than I realized, 2/3 of my list would likely change.

Schild, I found your list at the end of that thread. Thought it funny that I've only even played 3 of the games on that list, and I'm a fair bit older than you.

Wow, I dug deep for that 20 list. I've never been very nostalgic and have become even less nostalgic since then.

NVIDIA is ending 32-bit driver support. You wanna make a game today? That shit better be 64-bit, or you can fuck off.

This probably won't effect too many people. If anything MMOs and other online/still-updated games will need to get their shit together if they don't already have a 64-bit client.

Have you played MH games before? I'm not trying to be snarky; they're a very specific sort of game and clunky controls (along with shit inventory management) are part and parcel of that experience.

If the controls here are worse in some way, that's what I'd like to know.

Sorry, no I haven't played Monster Hunter games before. My comparisons were to other action combat 3rd person type of games and even among those, it was bad. I think I described it feeling like two blind rhinos trying to fuck in a giant burlap sack.

Then you carve a roast from them and you're playing Monster Hunter.  Also you beat up things with a mutant tuba.

Monster Hunter is basically about becoming one with your preferred weapons' movesets and learning monster tells so they walk into your attacks basically.

If you can't get into that, which is perfectly reasonable because nothing really plays like Monster Hunter- you're not going to like it. It utterly embraces its own clunkiness. I enjoyed the DS versions, but it's pretty fucking grindy.

The grind is always my problem as well, because it's not a Disgaea-like, turn your brain off kind of grind. It's a "you must be paying attention constantly while farming this boss 10 times" kind of grind and it just gets tedious. The relative lack of in-game documentation and thus the need to constantly be on gamefaqs or some Wiki does not help the matter.

I feel like I would like Monster Hunter if you could just be fighting monsters the whole time; the controls are different but precise.  What I remember from the Wii U version was tons of wandering around with loading screens and messing with items.  It felt like a game that did not respect my time and which was trying hard to withhold the good parts.  It also was a port of a wii game, so really ugly.

The controls are precise? I am gonna take your word for it cause I had the exact opposite feeling. Hard to tell if you hit, hard to tell what you hit, hard to tell if you have been hit, and don't get me started on the farce of a monster running away for ten minutes with me chasing only to have the attack animation stop me in my track every time I swing anything, obviously miss because of that, and start chasing again for another two minutes.

Yeah, precise are not how I would describe the controls of this latest one. It's the exact opposite of precise.

So apparently CD Project Red sent out a tweet yesterday from the twitter channel for Cyberpunk 2077. First tweet in like five years. It said: "*Beep*"

People got very excited. Rumors of something to be announced today. Or not. Who knows.

I'm strangely excited about a new Mario Tennis game.

Also according to several sources DS 1 is not a low effort remaster, they spent more than a year on it.

Nintendo Cardboard:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3Bd3HUMkyU

I can see kids loving this. I just see like $70 for software+cardboard and balk.

This seems like one of those things where at best you'll spend $160 for the whole set for a kid,  then they'll build everything, play with it off and on for a month or two until the cardboard starts to wear out and then not really mess with it again. Then the community for it will be supplanted with an army of 30-40somethings building insanely elaborate toys with it.
