It's very much spreadsheet baseball. There's little graphical oomph to it and not really any personality either. It's a really good baseball sim but these days I compare every sports type sim to either NBA 2k Live (whatever the latest version is), Madden or Football Manager. The first two have the shiney, the last one has the personality on top of strategy and spreadsheet-y goodness.

By brother is, bluntly put, a baseball nerd. His birthday is coming up, so....it seems like a potential gift.

He's a fan of simulation games. Not sure how he'd take to spreadsheet baseball. Have to consider that a bit.

As long as he doesn't care too much about graphics, OOTP is the shit for baseball.

I agree 100%.  As a baseball fan, I'd be quite happy to get OOTP as a gift.

Titanfall 2 is $11.99 on PSN store right now if you have PS+  Pretty good deal even if you just want to do the campaign.

Not exactly surprising, but still sad.  There were a ton of great ideas in there buried under a mountain of implementation issues.  I LOVE the idea of FPS Dota, I hope the fate of Battleborn doesn't scare other companies from trying it again.  The whole "PvE with crazy FPS characters" concept is one I really like, too, was probably the best thing about the game to me.

I posted this in Steam deals, but for more visibility because time is short:

Outlast Deluxe Edition is free on Humble Bundle for the next 36 hours.
https://www.humblebundle.com/store/outlast-deluxe

If you want that on Steam you'll have until October 7th at 10:00 AM Pacific to redeem the keys, after that they disappear.

I wasn't even granted steam keys on that one.

As I said that, it was populated.

That game, unfortunately, would have struggled a bit even if they hadn't had the gaming industry's most unfortunate timing ever, accidentally waltzing into the ring right as Blizzard throws in its juggernaut a-game and the frustrations and worldbuilding of years of repurposed franchise work.

The handful of people I know that bothered playing it said it was a bunch of half-interesting ideas buried under a terrible UI and awful writing/visual/audio design.

I was confused as well.  I downloaded Outlast because it is both free and highly regarded.  But I am way too much of a pussy, I think, to actually play it.

Gonna camp GameStop and try to get a SNES classic tomorrow.

Yes, I know, I can emulate the shit out of all the games right now.

No, I don't care.  why so serious?

I tried this game and I also seem to be too much of a pussy.  I don't know why, exactly, but this game scares the shit out of me.  I can't even.

Hey, man, I have a couple (non-working) SNES and a NES and a Genesis gathering dust... no judgements here.

I think I have a CRT TV buried somewhere just for the purpose of connecting that RF converter.

Looks like we may be getting a REAL sequel to Star Control 2, after all! link to press release-like-thing

I wonder if Toys for Bob will do a kickstarter or just use their truckloads of Skylanders cash to do this thing. In any case, Juffo-Wup fills in my fibers and I grow turgid.

Looks like development stopped years ago, but there was a fan project to get Ur-Quan Masters working on modern OSes

http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

I know that it will download, install , run, and play for at least 10 whole minutes under Win10.  Beyond that, you're on your own.

It's a weird combo.  Humble Bundle, which is kinda supposed to champion the indie scene, and IGN, which has often been shills for the big gaming companies, don't seem like a natural fit.

Humblebundle has been a bit of a dumping ground for the last two years or so. Squeezing that tiny last bit of blood from a stone.

Humble expanded from a neat bundle idea, to a nearly constant pile of bundles with junk in it, to a store that no one hardly buys anything from, and then to a monthly subscription service.

Basically it has suffered the same fate as Woot did under Amazon.

The Humble Monthly is a pretty good deal IMO.  Though at this point, I have like 500+ games in my Steam library, most of which I'll probably never play.

So I guess Fractured But Whole (South Park) comes out today.  Supposedly as good or better than Stick of Truth, so day one purchase for me.  If I can figure out which system I want it one (PC or PS4?) I might hurry up and pre-order to get Towlie as my buddy!

For the record, Stick of Truth is one of my favorite games of the last 5 or 6 years.  Decent as an RPG, and basically looks and feels like playing a 20 hour episode of the TV show.  Played it through twice, and will probably do so again at some point.  I think you can even a free copy if you order FBW.

EA Killed Visceral Studio which is pretty much par for the course. Two good games in DS1/2, then EA fucked up DS3, shunted them to a one-off filler Battlefield title, then killed them off. Woo, fuck EA.

To be fair, that one-off Battlefield title (Hardline) sucked REALLY  HARD.

As a bonus, this kills off a Star Wars adventure game by the producer/designer of the first 3 Uncharted games.  Sad Panda They'll probably use the assets in some sort of Destiny rip off loaded down with pre-order bonuses, DLC, and pay-to-win microtransactions up the wazoo.

To be fair, that one-off Battlefield title (Hardline) sucked REALLY  HARD.

There was no way that game could have ever been good, especially if you just throw some team on it that's done nothing remotely similar.

I give the remains of Bioware 6 months post their next underwhelming release, then it's into the woodchipper.

To be fair, they had one good idea.

Dead Space.

Fuck the sequels. When a studio is made because they have a single idea, that studios future is already sealed.

I'm excited to see Riot fuck up their next game even though LOL will keep them afloat forever.
