Coming Spring 2011.Everything in The Sims Medieval is crafted to create an immersive medieval world, from the quest-based gameplay, to the medieval objects such as swords and stocks and thrones, right down to the warm look of the characters, and the painterly approach to the world itself. Players can choose to customize every new Hero that comes to the kingdom, including selecting their traits and their fatal flaw. Players get close to their characters, not only sending them on epic quests, but also making sure they carry out their daily responsibilities such as healing the sick, trading for exotic goods, or forging armor. From having a baby to competing in a royal tournament, what happens to their Sims is up to the player. The time of romance and chivalry is back with The Sims Medieval.

After years of ignoring the franchise they may finally get me. I'll be doomed if they ever release Sims: Mass Effect or similar alien sci-fi expansion.

Hahahaha! I'm really good at this!

The Guild II or whatever is kind of this already, I think. I haven't finished the tutorial yet.

Can't believe it took them this long to make this basic connection, but !

See, I don't find this a natural connection, personally. I mean, it sounds fun and all that jazz, and I understand wanting to be able to slap THE SIMS label on stuff like this because of the name recognition. It's just not. You know. The Sims. At least not the way it's been described so far.
Yes, I am a weirdo who would rather it was named SimMonarch or something.

If I ever go back and finish the tutorial I will let you know! My initial impression was that the interface was kind of annoying, but there might be some interesting gameplay farther in.

Secondly, maybe this will fulfill all that pie-in-the-sky I found missing from Majesty 2.

Guild 2 sounds interesting. I, too, haven't made it past the tutorial.

I much preferred Europa 1400: The Guild (i.e. The Guild 1) to The Guild 2. G2 was much buggier and had a terrible interface compared to G1.
That said, I'm cautiously interested in seeing where this goes. It could be a cool kingdom sandbox/sim-lite type game. On the other hand, the press release is light on details and 2011 is far away.

And you will note elsewhere in my post history, that I find the dungeon crawling aspect of World Adventures to be completely missing the point of the Sims in the first place. Still, if this game gets that crap out of my Sims and into a different game for me to enjoy without constantly thinking "This is not why I played these games," I am certainly cool with that.

Man, I loved Sims2, but the actual sims themselves in Sims 3 look so horrible, that I never got into it.

Same but The Guild 2 has grown on me. Waiting to see some reviews on the latest stand alone from last week. Really, even though it has warts, it's worth checking out The Guild 2. You can pick up any of the games for 20 bucks on Steam so it's not a bad price.

I am totally with you there, it's my biggest problem with the Sims 3. I finally got used to it and the sims themselves are so much smarter and interesting on their own (plus the whole town aging is rad-ass), I can never go back, but the art style for the Sims 3 sims was a huuuuge disappointment for me. I did pick up the Guild 2! It's uh ... it's a busy game. I think I like it though?

I should fire up 3 again and give it another go. I do like all the improvements to the behaviors and gameplay.

They probably do if you take away their potty, I can't imagine they'd get rid of that aspect. I don't usually torment my Sims like that, though. They ARE smart enough that you can leave them to their own devices without them setting the entire lot on fire, which is nice!

This sounds more like what Colonization was to Civ IV: a standalone package that's not quite a sequel, but is different enough to be a similar game.

Yeah, that occured to me after my post. A reskin with a few tweaks, then sold as a standalone. I might consider it if the DRM isn't all fucked up again.
