There were some in that Primordial Desert Generator, hidden up in the tunnel ceilings.  After dealing with those, I can see why they aren't in the game normally.

The Primordial Desert was just silly in general though. It's really hard for an extra night, then you find a iron/diamond volcano and it's riches!

So, I was digging a deep quarry in a cave in the freshly-launched 1.9p5 server, when a lighting bug caused me to mistake a hole for a solid block, sending me down into a pit with three creepers, a zombie, a skeleton, and a spider. Two close-range explosions and one point-blank one later I... was still alive.

Moral of the story: make some goddamn armor. It's a lifesaver in 1.9.

Well in the Brave New World of creeper explosions instakilling from essentially any range, it's practically a requirement now.

I'll chime in agreement. I've been able to keep myself in a suit of iron armor and a stack of bread since 1.9 started, and I don't think I've died yet.

I find it irritating that the helm and boots wear out before the bp and leggs, though.

These new water physics are a goddamn nightmare. For those who don't know, 1.9 PR5 introduced new water physics where, if a water source is completely surrounded by water or solid surfaces, any water that flows down from that also becomes a source block. This was introduced to combat a non-problem of people being able to make undersea air pockets for breathing and torch placement and such, but has the side effect of making even a single-tile leak in a ceiling or in a wall an utter disaster that takes far more effort than should be needed to correct, since you not only have to plug the original leak, but also have to place blocks in a downward pattern to kill all the source blocks from the top down before the magically replicating water will subside. A single misplaced tile (likely due to fighting the current of the leak you're trying to fix) can cause the leak to spread and make a new downward column of water that you also need to fix.

It's horrible and still doesn't fix the problem of "whirlpools" forming on the surface of deep water when a tile occupying a water block is removed with nothing underneath it.

I was bummed, coming from Terarria, at how primitive the water code is in minecraft. If I unplug a 20-block pool, it should drain 20 units of water to the next lowest point.

Ehh, I think that would actually kind of suck in terms of ability to create realistic terrain features like waterfalls and such. Minecraft's water system allows things like springs to exist, I think that makes up for the shittiness in other aspects. Now, if he wants to create a full meteorological system with a functional water table etc. we'd be talking.  why so serious?

Heh, imagine if he put displacement in.  20 block pool of water?  Put a block in, a block of water is pushed out.  Oh noes!

I seem to remember some mod was attempting this let me see if I can find it.

*a couple minutes pass*

Ah ok, found it.  It also has some neat piping features.  Doesn't look like there is a 1.9 version though

That explains the monsters spawning outside of the glass in the stations that have a trapped spawner.

I finally got around to trying 1.9.pre4 and rustled up enough diamonds (5) to try out the enchanting table (2 for table, 3 for pick to get the obsidian it needs).  It's actually pretty cool, who knew?  I will definitely set one of these up ASAP whenever we have our 'real' 1.9 server.

Still haven't tried out alchemy because despite extensive nether searching, I still can't find a fortress, which apparently is where one of the alchemy brewing stand parts comes from.

Make that HAD. Got trapped in a water pocket while exploring a crevice/mine, could see daylight so I swam upwards and died like one block from the surface. Lost my magic sword, my magic diamond pick, a half dozen diamonds and miscellaneous other, more easily replaceable crap (full inventory, I was heading home). Hate that.

I did not know there was a screenshot in game. What is it?

Also, there was a huge abandoned mine under Monkeytown that has an embarrassment of riches. I am awash in iron.
