Oh, right, I meant to put a link to it for anyone interested in checking it out: LINK!
Does the full mod run on the server?

We don't run mods on the server, less headache for Trippy (and us) between versions.

I use that texture pack too and I  Heart it.

Keep in mind with that texture pack that you need to install MCPatcher first, or things will look weird (little animated fire .gifs on stone blocks and whatnot, no moving water or lava)

That texture pack has the awesome ability to have multiple skins for the same mob type. One of the coolest things about it.

So I have to say, as much as I hate the goddamn Endermen, I have to admire how much better they now convey the feeling that I think Notch was originally going for.  Had a couple show up while I was working in a mine the other night, and rather than laughing and cutting them up for pearls, my reaction was more "ohgodohgodohgod don't look at them".

I haven't yet succeeded in actually killing one.  They always teleport away before I can finish them off, and then I spend the next five minutes nervously looking behind me.  Creepy as hell.

I'm kind of wishing mods like industrycraft and buildcraft were added. why so serious?

That isn't Crankytown, it is the Lost City of Cranky, reclaimed from the flood.

Crankytown has not been found yet.  I'm still looking for a cow.

No but it took me a couple of tries to get in.

Yes, yes I am getting that error.  Something is wonky - at Mojang maybe?

From what I'm seeing Minecraft.net's authentication stuff is being wonky today.

Beta 1.9 pre-release 5 is out. Mostly bugfixes.

Bleh. I just want 1.9 for realsies already. The server I play on is still 1.8.1, and we've been having to hold off exploring a lot until 1.9 so we don't generate too much land.

Is it all that very difficult to start with 1.9pre5 and then go to release?

Asking because I have never run a server and have no idea.

Its no big deal so long as terrain/biome generation doesn't change. It changed between 1.8 and 1.9 and that caused all the mess.

It's mainly the lack of tools like Bukkit being available for later pre-release versions.

Edit: Welp, looks like my server's going to have to generate a new world anyway; loading my server's map seed into 1.8.0 (which produces the same world we're playing on now), saving it, loading it into 1.8.1, saving it again, then loading it into a 1.9 pre-release fucks things royally. The world abruptly turns to ocean after a few hundred tiles in any given direction, similar to 1.7 worlds going to 1.8. And I'd just finished up my massive desert palace.

Feels bad man.

Would MCEdit only really be useful for individual buildings, or is it good for importing whole swaths of a map?

It is far easier to use it to copy entire chunks than to pick and choose blocks, so, swaths.  How big these swaths are depends on your definition of large.

When I copied hunks of our built stuff a few versions back, I kept hitting the memory limit so I had to try and just get the main structures.  Even so, I did cut a few houses in half.   ACK!

As mentioned, it's easier to grab large chunks. It's also possible to save chunks and just remember where they go by making them quadrants or referencing a map when you place the stuff again.

Since none of us on my server really care that much about starting over (I still plan to get a save game copy for posterity, though), I figured I'd go through and take some screenshots of the bigass desert palace I made (others on the server call it Xanadu, and the name stuck) in case it doesn't get MCEdit'd:

Approaching the front
The gatehouse
The front door, opened from the other side only via switch
View from the other side
Front of the central mansion
Stables I prepared for 1.9 that probably won't see any use now  Sad Panda
Inside the stables
Inside the front door of the mansion
The throne
View from the throne
Hallway from one of the sides of the throne to the large tower
View up the tower. I was considering rigging up a telescope at the top and making it into an observatory, but alas
Borin' ol' crafting area
One of the two side stairwells to the top floor
Second floor. Master bedroom on left, storage room on right
Canopied bed!
Back "yard". Crappy palm trees and a nice little oasis
View from the large water-covered platform from the first shot, which was going to be a stop point for our skyway system
The Creeplossus
Back leg of the Creeplossus. I wanted a kind of Statue of Liberty vibe to it
Central "trunk" of the Creeplossus
The head. For some reason, no matter how well I light this thing up, stuff always spawns up here. Though it is amusing and ironic to have Creepers fall to their deaths down the trunk of a giant Creeper

You should load up the inside of that creeper with TNT, have everyone come out to see it one last time and blow everyone up.

It's how any Creeper would want it to go down.

Building it was actually fairly fast. Maybe six hours in total, most of which was spent landscaping and waiting for glass to cook. Gathering the roughly 30,000 sand for sandstone took probably double that. The creeper took almost exactly 12,000 sand and about 200 obsidian, which was a chore.

The skyway tower took probably four hours by itself because god damn do I hate fucking with flowing water.

Oh, and I'm not exactly thrilled about the massive Creeper damage boost in 1.9. Being one-shot by a Creeper four tiles away on Easy is not exactly fun, especially on a multiplayer server where at least a little latency comes with the territory.

Yes, I was quite the splody mess last night.  I saw more creepers in that cavern than I've ever seen anywhere.  Are there creeper spawners?

I hate cavern exploring.
