I think an overview is left out intentionally to make you think about things before running off.

Clouds are your compass. People have decided clouds move to true north, so you just stop before you leave where you are and take note of the direction.
Speaking of this, I can confirm that, at least as it relates to cartographer images, the clouds actually move west.

My coulds move from the upper right to the lower left on the map. What is that, south? I can tell because I know from which direction they intersect my keep.

Also, clouds are client-side, so it might not be consistent. I noticed when climbjtree took screenshots with me in them.

- I'm giving you this one for free.
- Nothing's free in the waterworld.

I like the location also, just that structure/land there needs to be razed. It's really annoying that the block the spawn point was above has been taken out and the ground below has been taken for bricks resulting in falling to my death a few times.

Not complaining about the artwork at the spawn point but it really shouldn't of been done there, i'd rather just a small island with all the bridges off to different sections.

That's actually how its been since the map was created. The first time I logged in on that map I fell into the water and by the time everyone had created stuff I realized you could fall to your death. I'll try adding to the spawn area again, but it disappears after a couple seconds.

There is a bug. Sometimes when you die, you respawn with like 1hp and so if you fall even 1 tile you die again.

Something like that could be what is happening. I've personally never really died at respawn, but everytime I die I disconnect and then reconnect.

Built a (long) bridge from the top of the skull at the spawn point to the other side of the water as a direct path to get over there.  The bridge runs straight at the sun so bring your sunglasses.

Could be an OpenGL problem. Have you tried new graphics drivers?

is there any specific spacing for those support columns?  If You don't mind I'd like to throw some arches under the bridge.

Add away to the bridge!  I put the columns where it was easy for me to build, so no exact spacing.  I wanted to extend the columns up past the bridge but if I fell down one more time while trying to build a keyboard was going to have to be broken.

IP still isn't being posted. Realized I missed that info and updated it.

Pretty sure I sent it to you, but I'll send again.

Edit: Anyone have a TS or Vent server kicking around? I think we should start using voice.

Here's what I got so far, the left has a ramp down to my sand pits, the right is a normal column.  Will finish the rest as I get rock.

yeah, I don't like fucking around with files to play, so I avoid extraneous shit like that

That's amazing. I was trying to figure out a good way to branch off the bridge into your sand area but didn't have a good idea.  The best I could come up with was to link a road from one of your exits but this is much better.

What are you using to get the different colours  on the columns?

Um.....position of the sun, and shadows.

the column was originally 2 wide, and I ran those up in an arch.  Then I widened it with a row on each side, but one block out and one block under, essentially they are "connected" by a corner only.  So yeah, the different color look is due to shadows, the lighter blocks are the added trim row jutting out.

Wow, this is crazy.

How do you build something with gaps?  Like the bridges and things?

Whenever I try to dig a block out, the blocks above slide down.  I can't figure out how to place a block over air.

You must be using sand or gravel, which are affected by gravity.

Pro-tip for those that don't know.  Your items (like shovels and picks) deteriorate as you use them.  However, pressing Q to toss the item on the ground and then picking it back up resets the durability (essentially making shovels worth a fuck).

I kind of wish all blocks obeyed physics, or there was some kind of cave-in threat while mining.

Well mining up under sand and gravel can be hazardous to your health.  If all blocks obeyed physics, the game (to me) would be less interesting as I couldn't do half the shit I do now without a whole lot of pointless effort.  I'd rather have a little fun rather than dealing with too much realism.

That's my feelings too.

The option to play on a server with more realistic settings is something I would probably do occasionally though, but I wouldn't want the game like that all the time.

I guess I really just want a mining cave-in threat while maintaining the gravity free building aspect.  Basically, I don't know what I'm saying.   why so serious?

Probably won't happen. He doesn't want to write a physics engine and to add gravity to blocks used in the construction of caves, well, I'm sure you see the problem.
