I read that the current server version hasn't implemented storage which is why furnaces don't work. It requires storing the materials temporarily inside the furnace. Also chests don't work if you log off, same reason. I made the mistake of putting a bunch of shit in one to restart the client. Poof.

It seems to stick around if you die and drop your items on the ground. If I need to relog and don't feel like making a bunch of pick-axes again, I will fall off something tall to die and then relog.

The guy writing Llamacraft has a kludge fix. He's also written in a command /lighter so in conjunction with fixed furnace that would open up a lot of building as you can finally craft iron. No rush, having a server is better then none. Thanks Trippy for hosting, the RAM requirements killed me even thinking of offering up my linode.

Trippy is going to try and put Llama in tonight.

The downside is more hacks/mods they use, the more chance that it's going to crash. As ambitious server admins are discovering.

Played on the new server for a bunch of hours this evening last night.  Pure awesome.

I build an underground tunnel that goes between the mainland and a small island.  Built small houses around entrances.  Also got a small farm/garden going outside. If anyone needs food, they should be able to harvest it from there after it grows a bit more.   To find the place follow the road near the dragon that runs along the shore line.

Also, to anyone on the fence: buy this.

I keep getting sidetracked by underground tunnels!

I am learning about water. It is slow. Items not lasting and no furnaces is annoying.

I think the server is down. Not sure if Trippy is updating the files or if it just crashed.

I can post the cartographer, but the world file I have will be outdated unless all you want is Bzaltheks tower.

Livestreaming on the f13 server now at www.livestream.com/newslang

Was doing it so a friend could see multiplayer, but I figured I'd post it here in case anyone wants to see.

I'll probably just have to send you the outdated one. I'm not running the server anymore, so I'd have to bug Trippy to get the files, which involves stopping the server so it saves the most recent chunks.

Edit: I'm going to be editing the OP to include some ground rules and guidelines based on the server softwares instability. Noticed A LOT of water has been spawned, which is notorious for causing heavy chunk updates when it flows and can cause disconnects or crashes. I've plugged up what I placed, what others placed and I'm in the process of plugging up that hole in the sea floor that pours into a cavern.

I try to avoid working with water.  Though there is a little undersea cave I just discovered with a nice small waterfall which I left.

I've only done some very minor shoreline stuff to even out the land for some projects, but I've not experimented much with flowing water simply because I'm scared of ruining my projects.   Though when I was first making my underground/water tunnel to the island where I'm going to build my fort, I did spring a leak once very early in the project which I was quickly able to plug up.  Since then I've been very careful when working below sea level.

Edit: I still can't figure out how to make the furnace work.  I can seem to light it with the lighter mod, but smelting never starts when I put the materials in (coal, clay).  There is now flame indication in the furnace UI, but it does show up on the furnace block.  I suspect I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what.

For the most part springing leaks and plugging them is fine. Placing huge amounts of water and cracking open the sea floor into a cavern is the big issue. Any huge changes to waterflow causes issues with chunk size. Same applies to lava.

Smelting works and I was able to build a small rail track. Abandoning the waterside for mine carts!

I just popped onto Trippy's server and man, is there a night and day difference between this and what it was like when it was on someone's home PC. Almost no lag, loaded the visible world within a minute. Completely playable despite transoceanic distances.

Of course, now this means I can't even get away from Minecraft by going home... ooooh boy.  ACK!

Hooray for furnaces! I've been lost without access to glass, metal, and cooked stone. Time to start digging downward for some valuable minerals.

Server performance is excellent, by the way. I'll gladly pitch in for the costs of running it.

I have done a lot with water. But I have mostly been making stablee water, having destroyed a lot of land, to one to two tiles depth and with no flow. I hope that's ok.

Can't wait to do some smelting. I have huge plans.

PERSISTENT INVENTORY!

Just download the persister JAR file from HERE and run it. It'll open Minecraft normally, just login and voila! Just a note: It takes snapshots of your inventory periodically, so you need to give it time. Don't collect a diamond and then disconnect. Give it some time to run its course and then log off. Starting work on the underground city tonight. It will be epic!

Also, if I find naturally occuring water and lava flows underground do you want me to try to plug them up for the sake of server performance? Been just building around them for scenery.

Now, to minecraft;
I’m working on name verification, a flag to start servers in offline/insecure mode, and banning support at the moment, and will probably release it today. It will require a client, server AND launcher update. :-O

Tomorrow, I will do a seecret friday update. Ooooh! I wonder what it could be? Perhaps hamsters? Perhaps turnips? Who knows!?

Server-side inventory is coming next week, including shared chests and so, and this is also when I will fix some of the bugs in SMP, like the ladder thing and the looking through walls bug.

There's a launcher update and game update right now, gotta repatch in the texture pack. I'd assume there's a server one too.

Shared chests and inventory next week, squee!

How does this work, do I need to patch manually?  Also, does updating mean you can't connect until the server updates, etc, or will stuff just work

God I love this game...

Spent the best part of 2 hours pruning a tree and planting more for a loosely planned green archway entrance to my "kingdom" and building a tiny little dock and shed for travellers who decide to visit. Oh.. and made a big sign in the sky...

Thinking I will try and have automatic metal doors in my moat so you can drive a boat in.. not sure if this will work, might need a button or lever.

Would love to see a new cartographer.. I get the feeling people are building stuff in areas I haven't visited yet. If it's off the road I probably haven't seen it.

Or people could just give directions here so I know when I got for a explore next time.

The launcher needs to be updated so go to minecraft.net and download a new one. From there it will update your game automatically. After that any mods you were using (i'm guessing the 3d dot heros skin) will have to be reapplied to your minecraft.jar

You won't be able to connect to any servers because the update is forced and you won't be able to login with an old client. You won't be able to connect until Trippy can update the server *NOTE* without Lamahcraft 1.7 as its currently broken with todays update.

Minecraft Alpha 1.0.16, Minecraft Server 0.1.1, and a new Launcher patch notes and instructions.
