That's a good idea. I started a new map and my mining tunnel is situated under a huge mountain, so the mountain top grow op would work I'll turn Peaceful off once I finish cleaning up the cave I just spelunked. Crack open a wall to 2 lava pits, I see a single hole in the wall, which led to a 3 hour adventure.

I keep doing something to get my ass killed before I can construct anything truly heroic. I assume getting killed wipes out what you've done?  I can never seem to find my site and since it's at night usually..  awesome, for real

I managed to get myself killed earlier on a fairly well developed site when I dug down, took a wrong step and ended up plunging down a deep hole. I then got knocked into lava by a skeleton's bow shot.  It rocked.

That all looks very straightforward to me -- what, you didn't take a couple of semesters of electrical engineering in college?   awesome, for real

NiX and I did a little Minecrafting tonight. Thus far we've started the mine, built a staircase up to the top of the mountain, and built a fort at the top. After NiX logged, I started a land bridge from one mountain top to another. I had a random disconnect and lost my tools so I didn't do too much after that.

At any rate, we'd like to get a couple other F13'ers in on this!

The greenhouse ceiling needs to be REALLY high - at least 6 cubes off the floor, if not more.

I hope you like glass.  awesome, for real

Yeah, caught the errors when I woke up to restart the server. On the upside, with us being the only ones on it the memory issues don't seem to creep up.

Server will be up for most of day, send me a PM if you want the IP.

None of the texture pack installation instructions seem to work for me.  Sad Panda

edit: works now.  Minecraft was saving temp data to a completely different directory than what they assumed.

I'm in the same boat. No idea how to use them and feel like I didn't take a course I should have.

Step 1.  Get the bright idea to dig out a window in your crafting room to see when the night has ended.

Step 2.  Dig a large window only one tile above floor level.

Step 3.  Oops, need to go get the glass.

Step 4.  Get glass from chest.

Step 5.  Turn around and see that a creeper has jumped into your window opening and is running toward you.

Good bye.

Damm. This game is addictive.  ACK!

I just wasted 3 or 4 hours on this thing before going to work.

And I also managed to log into the F13 server. I added ladders to the (impressive) tower-thingy and some real stone stairs to a castle-like structure I found on a hill in the clouds.

After logging off I realized that it might be bad form to mess with other peoples constructions, so I apologize for that.

I built the castle, so it's totally cool if you tinker with it.

I think the etiquette standard should just be that you don't completely overhaul something. If you want to add to something and whatever you add is in keeping with the style of the structure, have at it!

Btw, is this a dedicated server and are our accomplishments stored somehow ?

Yep! Items are not saved, but the world is.

Basically this means that anything you build will be saved, but any item you mine/craft (ha!) will not. This also includes what you store inside chests.

Dedicated in the sense that my personal computer is restarted along with the server once a day.

Good fun indeed. I added a couple of small arches to fill the big empty void inside the triangles after you had logged off, I'm not sure what I think of them. Just knock them down if you don't like them.

Can't play on the server anymore. I am stuck on logging in. I enter the world, move or dig and then I rubberband to the starting position every 5 seconds or so.

Oh, I'm also using a texture pack to make it look like 3D Dot Heroes, the default ones aren't that nice. If you have the game you can grab the texture pack from here.

I like this texture pack, but it doesn't have textures for NPCs. I was wondering why none of my single player games had any animals!! Now I know.

Animals show up in my games and even in the multiplayer. Something must be up with that.

Server is down. Came back from lunch and the server wasn't running, went to read the server log and noticed the world file is gone. I'll be bringing it back up after looking through the log to see what might have caused it.

It was acting flakey about an hour ago - put down a block and it'd disappear, then (sometimes) reappear after a minute or so.

Nothing in the log to indicate WTF happened. Brought the server back up.

I probably fucked it up with all the lava.

I'd probably get lost.  I have a bunch of small ramps and spirals that exit out at different places.

Oh, there's a torch grove behind yer sign.  I didn't want to let em rot when others could probably use em.  I made too many.

I took a backup of the server before heading to bed last time and will continue to do that until a better version of the server is released.

I'm clicking buttons while my five year old daughter is telling me what to build and where.  So far we have a house with a pink roof, a crystal tree, a monolith and an underwater cavern.  She wants me to put in playground toys next... not exactly sure how to do that one.

You could use a minecart to do a spiral slide, water as a fire pole (encase it in glass for effect)..etc. Creativity for the win!
