I wanna build a cactus farm and eventually cover the landscape with them 'cept for a few choice paths.  This is the only way to lay a 'trap' right?

I went too far, and I am now, as a result, useless on that server. Is there no /kill command or something?

What's the word on perhaps starting an MP server using the pre-alpha Survival release?  Is it too buggy to even play with?

Oh, I thought "survival" had to have mobs.  Why's it even called Survival if there is no.. uhhh, 'survival?'
Dang, I thought he might've released something new.

The monsters are overrated if there's no goal beyond just building shit. If I'm just building, I don't want to be bothered. I don't want zombie eating my face while I'm putting in the capstone on my monuments.

However, If the game wants me to build a fortress and a bridge to plug up the hole that's releasing the unimaginable horde of face-melting-exploding demons, then I'm gonna build the best fucking fortress/bridge/plug combo you've ever seen during daylight hours while packing a boomstick for nightfall.

Our server can have mobs, we've just opted to keep them turned off because there's no server side health, which makes them GODS! We would be overrun by Creepers and the day health gets turned on.. sssssSSSSSS!

I began a SP map where I dug out my own hole into a mountain, and turned large parts of 2 sides of the mountain into a huge window.

There's now a huge spider with lots of glowing red eyes, sitting right outside my window, hissing and staring at me! ACK!

Well, do they burn at daylight?
If so, even with no health that sounds like a cool as phuck game right there.  Actually, sounds more cool with monsters that dont die.

Anyone fooled with using mechanics and redstone circuitry in the game to do any 'programming?'

Do they still explode?  If there is no health, then jumping into a huge wad of creepers just to have one go off and throw the rest all over the place could b pretty amusing.

No, I'm not terribly tempted because it smells too much like work.  Also I can't conjure up a decent use for it which motivates me to bother with it.

Or perhaps server-crippling.

I think my mind broke just a little bit at the sheer amount of time it would have taken to put that together.

Makes me wonder: How difficult would it be to build an app that could scan a 3d wireframe (created in any standard 3d modeling / wireframe program) and export that to a loadable minecraft save?

It's entirely possible.

More likely, he scanned the blueprints, gridified them in photoshop, then transfered it,  by hand, deck by deck, inside an editor like NBTedit. Much faster than doing it in-game, but still an insane amount of work.

It's what the guy did for the other enterprise, and sort of what we did for the nimitz (we used blueprints that were somewhat gridified but built it all by hand in game)

Single-player survivor mode is pretty cool, but it needs a "zombie apocalypse" setting to keep things interesting once you're established. I've carved my own Ironforge into the guts of a mountain and built enough barricades and pits outside to repel Genghis Khan. Other than wood for pickaxe handles, I barely even need to go outside.

Yeah yeah those ships are pretty cool and all, but in just a few hours of play I've created tools made of stone and wood and dug some fairly deep holes!!! Give me a month and I bet I deliver stuff like iron tools and even deeper holes! Who knew I'd end up so creative in my older days...

Speaking of zombies, I've built what I thought was a completely tight room in a mountain. I added a lot of windows because I wanted to see what the weather was like outside, and to look at the monsters during the night time (and watch them burn during the day).

However, I was just killed by a spider (the very spider watching me all night and all day yesterday). I'm sure it's completely tight so they shouldn't be able to get in, but still, there it was. Ohhhhh, I see.

Was your tight room also fully lit? Monsters will spawn in the dark.

Oooh. I see. It wasn't *fully* lit, but it wasn't all that dark either. But I guess that explains that.

I've been thinking about making a place on a mountain top where they can't reach from the outside, but without a roof. A castle if you will. I assume that as long as it's fully lit, it'll be fine.
