Happened to randomly catch an episode ("The Blind Banker") of this over the weekend on Masterpiece Mystery.  I liked it, although I wasn't expecting it to be 1.5 hours.  Now I guess I have to do some research to find out where this fits into the season and see if I can find the other episodes.

Fairly sure that was only the second one ?

Get the first one watched and then the rest.  You'll enjoy it, even if the whiff of Moffat sometimes pervades.

My fiancee really likes the current movies for some reason, but even she has to admit the series is just so much better.

The timing on the american run sucks - that's after we shut down the DVR for the summer. Season 1 isn't Prime-eligible, so I guess the old lady is going to have to pony up $20.

Even I thought this was pretty good, and you know what a picky twat I am  why so serious?

Although... not sure they needed to be 90 minutes long. Snappier pacing and 60 mins would have worked for me. Minor gripe though. Excellent cast, really good chemistry between them all.

about 3/4 of the way through the first episode.  Lovely.... nothing like nowing you have several episodes of some awesomeness ahead.

"Sherlock" frustrates me. It's a clever show that is also full of stupid parts that have to happen 'just so' both the plot can continue and so that Sherlock can appear to be so much better than everyone else.

I've seen 4 of the 6 episodes and the first one was very strong, but the rest have those dumb moments that see my eyes roll and cheapens the rest of the show for me.

It stands out for me because the audience is meant to be drawn into the cleverness of the show, but often the set-ups involve a lot of stupid moments.

I do like the jittery-ness of Moriarty though. Watson is pretty much useless though (and I'm aware that some people think that his point is to be useless, but as a character he is given very little to do because Holmes can do anything he can do++).

Someone is channeling your Moffat angst, Ironwood!

One thing where the modern one deviates from the books characterwise is that Sherlock isn't that great in a fight, when in the books he's pretty strong/fit and can beat ass if need be.

John's also there to interface with regular society for Sherlock. You know, handle all the boring shit and the 'people stuff' that Sherlock can, at best, handle intellectually. Which is right there in the books too.

In the show, a lot of his stuff is implied -- he's the writer, the biographer. He made Sherlock famous (to his disgust) and I suspect gets some of his revenge against Sherlock in the writing. The .

He just doesn't have that much of a role in the books, other than backup. And being competent in general, if not genius.

Just saw the first episode of Season Two:

I never got into the new "Doctor Who" shows either.

One thing where the modern one deviates from the books characterwise is that Sherlock isn't that great in a fight, when in the books he's pretty strong/fit and can beat ass if need be.

In the "Sherlock versus The Asians" episode it showed that he wasn't so great in a fight, but then in one of the recent ones he spent his time easily beating the crap out of a CIA black ops agent. But I've missed two shows, so perhaps I've missed something there.

First episode ran on PBS Sunday. It is available online at PBS .com (which won't let me watch it on my phone because I am not I the US at the moment :( )

Wasn't it on AMC or something before? I have a new DVR and probably need another one because mine is trying to record all episodes of everything and I have to manually prune it.

Anyway, we weren't sure if that was the new Sherlock, so we recorded it. Yay.

Finished watching the last episode of the second season just now. Even with the little annoyances I really liked the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed the deerstalker gag, but I am easily entertained at times.
