Was this their new mmo all along or something entirely else? Will all the cards be digital now or have both an in and out of game counterpart? Will I be able to play a wow card game IN wow with other players?

I would be furious if I had bought the cards, assuming I couldn't sell them all for $.

Their new MMO was said to be a new IP... and actually an MMO.

An attempt to milk the market in the way that MTG:O tried to with Magic: The Gathering? It will probably do well...

This is Blizzard, it will do well.  In a year you will wonder why it was ever any other way.

Eh, license stability is the one thing MtG (not positive, but doesn't this also apply to Yugioh) has had over years. Seems like story IP licensing swapping really doesn't bode well for future success.

Haven't played WoW in awhile so not sure what success integration of CCG mechanics might spell for Blizzard folk. Didn't Everquest do this and was that a big hit?

I think the Star Wars CCG/TCG license (even transforming one used-to-be major maker into something very parasitical and weird) has changed more times that Courtney Love has been in rehab…

I'm divided on this.  On one hand I have a regular group that runs a raid about once a month in the TCG so we all have bought a fair amount of them.  For a chunk of change.  I don't think any of us have bought ultra-pricey cards though.

On the other hand I really like to play the game and going online would let me play much more often.  I wonder if it will have a 360 version.  I've found that playing cards games, like UNO, on the 360 is extremely relaxing.

Having said that, I dislike the idea of re-buying my favorite cards electronically.  Also the game is pretty fun, but not amazing and UDE has shoveled card sets out without regard to play balance.

Decipher did that with the LoTR CCG and it crashed the value of the physical cards and no one bought the electronic ones.

The actual blue post he quotes says nothing about them making the WoW TCG online at all; just that they're not renewing their license with Upper Deck. Where is he getting the information that connects that detail with an online TCG?

The webmaster or whatever at mmo-champ has insider sources, he's been right about pretty much ever 'leak' so far. Plus it's not hard to connect the dots since the guy from the tcg went to go work on an 'online' project.

What I have wanted in wow for 5 years has been mini games that you could play with other players(without using sme lame addon) so this makes me happy.

No, a thousand times no. People are already obnoxious and stupid. I do not want to be in groups or raids with naked blood elf girls, taurens in pink dresses and bunny suits or orcs wearing santa suits. Because besides rp'ers that is ALL it will be used for and people who rp generally wont be raiding a lot anyways so what they are wearing wont matter stat wise. Wow already has tons of different styles that if looks are what you want you can find a cool outfit to wear, personally when lazying about I like to wear my scarlet crusader uniform.

Yeah, we can't have anything interesting in the game. We need 5 anonymous assholes in identical "iconic shoulders" running through heroics calling each other "heals" and "rogue" and never talking to each other again. That's how it's meant to be.

Interesting outfits are out there, in fact there's even a built in gear switcher now. The only reason you see everyone in town looking exactly the same is because they dont care and in a dungeon/raid you'lll be too busy to notice anyways.

The only real side effect from an Appearance tab would be that every paladin ever would farm up tier2.

Mixed opinions about an appearance tab. As long as stuff like fancy dresses and holiday gear *didn't* work in the appearance slots, fine. I don't want to see some draenei dude tanking a current raid boss in a pink Easter dress, ever. The line for 'YOU RUINED MY IMMERSION' is way way far out there in WoW for me, but that is one of those tihngs that crosses it.

If only 'real' armor pieces could go into the appearance slots, then I'd be for it.

  • Show custom outfits in [sanctuary/friendly/contested/battleground/hostile] zones.
  • Show custom outfits for [friends/guild/party/raid].
  • Show custom outfits for [friendly/enemy] players.

Because the "but it ruins immersion!" arguments are bullshit if everything is opt-in/out.

Why don't we just go all the way and have people turn in TCG items to access an in-game photoshop where players edit the look of all their upper tier armor? Tramp stamp butterfly shoulder pads? Pink and yellow helmets? Tassel nipple covering chest plates?
No problem.

MMO in-game implications let aside, I wonder if this is any indication of the state of the CCG, especially regarding sales and acceptance. Or whether it all boils down to Blizzard wanting to do their own thing and not share the profits. I have bought quite a few cards a couple years ago when the game came out and was genuinely impressed by the game, but lost interest pretty quick because the mechanics seemed to get more and more complicated and inflationary.

Does anyone know how the CCG is doing? I'm not seeing them selling much here in EU, most CCG display shelves are MTG/Yugioh and the WoW packs are somewhere on the bottom shelf.

Yeah, pretty much. But it should definitely default to "off" for Arena/BG/etc. and probably even just have them automatically disabled there.

All they would have to do is make it so the piece that displays the look has to be of the same type as the piece it's replacing.  IE: Plate -> Plate, Leather -> Leather, etc.

Over and out.

Idiots will always find a way to annoy us.  Don't let their existence sway you as to a reason why a good feature shouldn't be available.

Those of us with some taste should have the option to make nice outfits.  Also seconding Nevermore and Sheepherder's suggestions.

I think it was more that blizzard was wanting an in-game counterpart and UD was not keen on having a cash cow disappear.

Pretty much this I would love to carry around some non combat clothing but I have a dps set a tank set and a pvp set with consumables and random stuff like gnomish army knives I have about 20 slots for loot and that fills up pretty fast with all the enchanting crap these days.

Not only would I be okay with someone tanking in their Easter Dress, I would encourage it!  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly? The number of people who actually ended up doing this past the first couple weeks of the feature going in would be really small is my guess. Once the "lulz" are over. Like I said before, the biggest "problem" would be all the Paladins wearing their Tier2 forever. Oh, and some Blizzard artist would cry himself to sleep because no one had to wear his Orange/Purple/Green chittin garb.

The Visuals on gear haven't had a practical impact on gameplay since TBC, and even then it was at most, a marginal vague suggestion. If you want to figure out what somewhat else is capable of in PvP, you're far better off just checking their Hp and Mana(or lack of it). There is already tons of Deviant Fish and the like in BGs and the world hasn't ended. Visuals on gear are also entirely moot for say, Druids. Does that Druid have full Wrathful, or is he in Quest Greens? Let's consult his leafy appearance. Is that Paladin Holy, Prot or Ret? Armor won't tel you anything.

Gear Score and a quick Mana evaluation will tell you more about a player's capability than a guess at what tier glowy shoulders he's wearing ever could.

Gyrocopters and Motorcycles and Dancing Pandas and people riding White Bears with Murlocs on them holding "Blizzard" flags are less immersion breaking?

Appearance Tab, with optional shoulders, cloak, helm, hands, feet actually works really well in LOTRO.
