So, this finished. I thought it was a kind of weak season unfortunately. Too much of just Archer trying to bang Veronica Dean and not enough of the other characters. Jumped the shark or just an off season?

I thought there were a couple of standout episodes, but by and large this wasn't a patch on previous seasons. I think the attempt to have a season-long story arc might have boxed them in a bit too much. It also felt like they didn't really introduce any new jokes, just rehashed old ones.

Apparently the ending is deliberately ambiguous because they didn't know if they were going to get renewed or not. I guess we'll see.

I get the feeling he's bored and burnt out. Would be better to not continue with another mediocre season than try and force it.

Still, that clearly was just another Archerbot.   why so serious?

I wish they would go back to the spy theme - it felt natural whereas this season felt forced and the drug dealer theme was somewhere in between.

I think the Magnum PI/'80's detective show was a lot funnier on paper. There were some good jokes this season (love the Lambo on the tow truck) but the season felt too short.

Archer Vice worked because they could still have Archer doing all the spy stuff (running, jumping, shooting) and the plotlines pitched them against big targets (the Yakuza, South American dictators, Cuba). I still think the final four episodes of that season is one of the best plotlines the show has ever done. Trying to do the same with some shady hedge fund managers and an aging bunch of Hollywood celebrities just doesn't offer as much scope for wacky violence and capers.

That, plus they already plumbed the the major Magnum P.I. references in RAMPAGE.

Honestly I think they just came up with the awesome season trailer for fun and then had to follow through with it.

It was a nice homage to Sunset Boulevard, but really made for a slow, short season. I'm sad to see it go, but at the same time I think it overdid it's run. They should have ended it before last season and done Frisky Dingo 2.0

Archer is literally Frisky Dingo 2.0, but with some actual editorial/creative control.  I mean, I laughed at Frisky Dingo, but couldn't make it through the entire run.  It suffered pretty badly from the Adult Swim "Here is some money artists!  Make what ever shit comes out of your head without any producers looking over shoulder to make your shit more coherent."  It's the exact same people who did that show, but with actual network creative control to make it watchable.

With the exception of some of the meandering through the sewers and sweat shop part, I thought Dingo was pretty coherent for the kind of show it was trying to be.

I think overall I enjoyed Frisky Dingo more than Archer. If H Jon Benjamin had voiced Xander Cruze it would have been about perfect.

Doesn't matter what you think, Archer gets 3 more seasons.

The only hitch is that they will only be 8-episode seasons instead of 10 or 13, but still I'm happy. More Archer. Keep playing it until they run the jokes into the fucking ground.

Yup, I'd rather have 24 mediocre episodes than none!  awesome, for real

Splitting it into shorter seasons could work especially if they go with a theme like the last two seasons.

It's probably a dream Archer has or something.

Considering Archer (and his LMD) died at the end of last season (oops spoiler), I don't think we are meant to take much of anything on this show as lineal story telling.
