I'm broke until payday, but a buddy got me Stalker: Shadow over Chernobyl for Christmas. I started playing it tonight. Is that headbob thing supposed to be a feature? It actually kind of makes my eyes cross. The gameplay seems good other than that. I plan on hitting a few of the cheaper bits of this sale when payday rolls around. There's a lot of tempting shit in there. Both Freedom Force's for less than $6? The Witcher?

There is a mod called Oblivion Lost 2009 updates the graphics and tons of other stuff. Should download it before playing too much and give it a try, improves the game greatly. There is a "headbob" toggle but im not sure if its mod specific (Couldn't stand unmoded version).

Had to pick up Riddick.  I'd "acquired" a copy a few years ago when it first came out and only made it about a half hour in before I reformatted my PC at that time.  Updated graphics and 2 games?  For $5?  Shit, yeah.

So far I've picked up a few games I already own, Indigo Prophecy, Jade Empire, and Deus Ex: GOTY, just for the convenience of having them on Steam.

As far as stuff I haven't played before, I got Medieval II: Total War, Rome: Total War Gold, Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, Mirror's Edge, and Company of Heroes.  With having purchased Torchlight recently also, I think I'm fairly well stocked up on stuff to keep me busy in what little downtime there is between big releases next year.

When I get some time, I kinda want to play through a few hours of each and churn out some BiiF's.

Thats interesting, as the US prices for those same games goes like this:

ID Superpack - $23.79
Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter $9.99
Need For Speed: Shift $37.49
Left 4 Dead 2 $33.49
Football Manager 2010 $29.99

So, they only seem to have adjusted for exchange rate with L4D2, and you seem to be getting seriously fucked with Soccer Manager 2010  awesome, for real

In Australia as well. Football manager on "special" for 52.49US. Thankfully I don't understand sport games and sport management games are even further away.

Fairly average games today. And the ID pack is a testament to how they've fallen.

Couldn't anyone just change their region to USA and buy the game from there in US funds to get around the non-adjustment of exchange rates?

You know, like people who bought L4 D2 from Germany/Australia did?

I'm never too sure if I like it  or not  Ohhhhh, I see. Turn-based combat is something I haven't done before and some of the battles are drawn out, but I keep going back to it as a diversion. Graphically it's nice in a Warcraft III sort of way but not  as impressive as Torchlight. I paid 20 bucks for it so yeah, I guess 9 is worth it just to see if it floats your boat. Don't buy it if you are expecting Diablo II.

It's not easy but doable, you would have to route your internet over a US proxy for purchasing because the Steam client itself enforces the regional restrictions. AFAIK it works and you can buy stuff in US funds, but it is pretty much a gray area as it constitutes a violation of the Steam ToS. If anyone remembers the upheaval about thai/russian Orange Boxes that were disabled for the rest of the world on Steam a few years ago, that was about something similar.

About today's sale: King's Bounty is pretty cool and I think AP is well worth the money, Red Faction: Guerilla is a decent sandboxy shooter.

Rodger dodger, love me some HoMaM...even if this title has some silly looking monsters. Also nabbed the new Red Faction for splodiness.

The community screen is getting funny, Steam is making buckets of money right now.

King's Bounty Gold with both games is down to $30 as well.  Probably going to spring on that instead of just AP.

I've only played it on 360 (and haven't finished it yet) but it's good fun. Endlessly-respawning cops/soldiers is annoying, but trashing buildings is a lot of fun.

To clarify - is appears that "the Sale" runs till Jan 3rd, right?

So I can pick up daily specials and hold off on the big bulk purchase until then...?

I bought Ghostbusters for $6 and quickly found out that it is apparently a buggy POS on the PC that is nearly unplayable. Go me!

Buy Lumines if you have never played it. It is easily my favorite puzzle game of the decade.

Even though Torchlight isn't really my kind of thing...$5? C'mon, already.

Normally I dload steam stuff while playing something else, I just noticed their icon shades green to reflect download progress. That, and having all my steam games launchable through the icon...just great UI.

It's dreadful IMO. You get to see such a tiny section of the map and that doesn't work well when one side has huge lumbering behemoths where each unit actually extends off it. The idea of having very different mechanics for each side is great but the reason starcraft got respect for doing that is because it was still balanced. This doesn't even seem to come close.

The single player campaign is kinda fun, reminds me of old C&C games (pre-SVGA resolutions).

Yea I read about the close in view/no zoom out complaints, though apparently they patched the camera to move it back a whooping 22%. Ohhhhh, I see.

I have so many other games to play now and not enough time anymore to play them all I'm just going to skip it.
