Saw 2cellos in concert earlier this week, pretty good show.  I didn't even know this was a thing that existed until recently.

Spent most of today listening to everything they have on youtube.

I flew from the US to London to see them play Wembley Arena three days before that Colbert appearance. Will be seeing them twice more in the next two weeks. Their new single:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvD3CHA48pA

Oh yeah, that, too. I'm not super into that Kid A period these days (I was way into it when it came out), but that new stuff sounds great!

My favorite Radiohead song is still True Love Waits, off the live I Might Be Wrong https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0cC-7J_wi8&list=PL06758B6996BFF4DC

The Stone Roses (my favourite band) just released their first single in 21 years.

It's a Britpop anthem of simple lyrics to suit football stadium crowds, but it's really well done. Lots of people don't like it at first, but I do: All For One

If you haven't heard the new album yet, True Love Waits is the final song and it was rearranged to be very haunting and maybe more emotional. I like the new album - it's not happy by any means, but likely my favorite since Hail.

Stumbled across this:

"Black metal supergroup Scour have released their first song “Dispatched”. Scour formed back in 2015,and features Phil Anselmo, John Jarvis (Pig Destroyer), Derek Engemann (Cattle Decapitation), Jesse Schobel (Strong Intention), and Chase Fraser (Animosity). As you may know, there’s a been a lot of controversy swarming around Anselmo lately, and this is the first new music he’s put out since all that started."

It is decent, nothing special, more notable for the members than the music.  Not familiar with Animosity and Strong Intention but it sounds nothing like Cattle Decapitation, Pig Destroyer or any of Phil's previous projects (that I am aware of).

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/scour-anselmo-pig-destroyer-cattle-decapitation-members-share-first-song/

Sounds like it could have been recorded in 1996.

In more exciting news Gorguts have a new EP and if you like Gorguts you will love this.  Pretty dense, lots of stuff going on or as one person put it "dissonant as fuck"

I disagree. Down is great, at least the first two albums I have (I dig Pepper's work a lot, though). And I only have the first Superjoint Ritual disc, but it's brutal and awesome.

True, but if you use that as a metric, you may as well toss out half your collection. Fiancee is appalled at how douchey most of my old musician buddies are. Eh, talent doesn't grow on trees, you put up with a lot of someone can hold their own on stage. Our second drummer used to steal and sell our backup gear, but he was a great drummer. You just had to keep your shit locked up when he was around.

Also, reason #87 why I'm no longer in the music scene. Ain't nobody got time for putting up with that kind of shit.

Don't care for that Scour track. Dig the Gorguts tracks, if they had a singer. No cookie. Too bad, because the music is really, really good.

Listening to the last Puscifer disc, I just can't. It's got some great work, but for my daily driving it's just a bit too electronic for the most part. I've binged on some Ghost when I was commuting for school, so I know my ear for modern music isn't totally gone. But I'd rather listen to some opera or fado or manouche. Angry music doesn't click much for me anymore, I'm not an angry young man anymore.

I had about a dozen albums in my cart, but had to winnow it down to one because I just dropped a bunch of dough on tech....that one album ended up being the self-titled Blues Pills disc.

Saw this chick from the 3rd row center, which is apparently a 'bad' seat to the snooty old folks. Sounds was great and it was like she was playing for us. Great sound separation, and no getting blasted by the brass section or drums.

She was a complete powerhouse. We initially went for Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition (because The Old Castle is one of my favorites). But the highlight was definitely Anne playing Ravel. On a stradivarius!

While we're on the topic of acoustic version of things, this version of Metallica's Fade to Black works very well.

That's really nice. I love when good classical players can incorporate the melody and rhythm lines like that. However, I think his heavy sections are a little weak in the heavy department (though nice ornamentation). I do it heavier, but way less pretty. I also do a decent chunk of Master and I was working on a classicalish version of To Live is to Die.

Ooh opening track is an awesome version of Iron Maiden's Wasted years

Brother clued me into some genre that has all sorts of fancy names  why so serious?
Dreamwave
New Retro Wave

I missed the wave by a few years but apparently this genre style is inspired by 80s soundtracks.. I dunno whatever, me likes it:

Timecop 1983 - Journeys
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egAB2qtVWFQ

and I guess my brother knows this guy who makes:  "Synthwave / Outrun / 80's Retro Electro"  but I listen to metal and let He who hath never uttered the phrase "Melodic blackened death thrash" throw the first rock  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Cartridge 1987 - The Chase
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvrMQD_SGj0

this will be my new commute music I guess if I would try and pigeon whole it I would call it Dark atmo electronica or something.  The Cartridge stuff reminds me of Samael's (Swiss metal band that has shed their BM roots) foray into electronica:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsG14vpkOT8

I dig the chill atmosphere this stuff has, if anyone knows of similar stuff please let me know.

Devil Electric - The Gods Below

Stoned Meadow of Doom is the greatest channel ever. Here's an Oz band with great vocals and heavy riffs. Between stuff like this and the Blues Pills (scandanavian), people who say there's no good rock music need a swift kick to the jimmies.
