I was just trying to figure out how he could consider SRV a guitar wanker.

He's too busy for my tastes.  Too many fills.  That and not every song needs a guitar solo, thank you very much.

David Gilmour or Alex Lifeson would be my preference.  Both can play the hell out of their instrument, but know when less is more.

SRV isn't anything like those other guys to my mind so I am also in the WTF NEBU camp on this one. That said, he's also not really my favorite (SRV, not Nebu).

You know who doesn't get enough love? Skunk Baxter. For his guitar solos, not his weird post-rock GOP military consultant thing.

I liked SRV when he was called Buddy Guy.

Speaking of not getting enough credit. Also, Eddie Hazel.

Anyway, I like Yngwie's more straight classical stuff, he comes off the rails when he tries to write his own. A lot of bluegrass bands do that, too. Great classic covers and then some weird new age shit originals.

That video made me giggle almost as much as when someone says "Yngwie Malmsteen" which translates into "I'm so full of myself sometime my ass leaks."

Srsly.

Maybe it's not a metal core band but I'd strongly recommend them.

Right on, Lurker Dude, that's exactly the kind of stuff I am looking for.

I really like Arch Enemy a lot.  If you're interested in some good alternative metal with female vocals, try Otep.  They're one of my favs.

Really enjoyed some of the Otep songs. She pulls off growl metal well, and its nice that it isn't -all- just growl metal, and there's some good variety in her song writing. Also, her production values are through the roof.

Mike was the singer for the Derek Trucks Band, and currently sings for Scrapomatic and does backups for Tedeschi Trucks Band. He's an amazing blues/soul singer. Highly recommend this one.

I don't get it, Signe,  you post Otep which is very exciting, and then this, which strikes me as pretty mainstream vanilla?

Why does this remind me of Christian Rock?  I kept expecting them to break into a chorus about Jesus.

Gwar "Madness at the Core of Time"

I hope they fix that mix. Its just, off.

Candlemass - Solitude (Live @ Roadburn, April 16th, 2011)

This should be be waiting for me at the shop this friday (as a Double gatefold white vinyl with etched D-side). I find it hard to believe that it's over 25 years already from when the album was originally released (1986)  swamp poop
