Super cute.

But why is that deer wearing lipstick?

So it's sexier when you kiss it.... Duh.

Even these are cute when they are babies... sadly, that doesn't last and they turn into some kind of monstrosity born out of hate and despair.

The intention would be a responsible gift to a 3-year-old that doesn't require parental supervision to spend.

Or maybe they wanted to give her the same amount of money as her age, cause that's a big deal for some people her age*.

Sorry, forgot to reply about the £3. I have a friend who complains to supermarkets a lot (one of *those* people...) and she says that £3 is the standard amount they send out. Always! No idea why, obviously someone, somewhere, once decided that was the appropriate compensation for anything and they've just stuck with it ever since!

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Thats the cuteness effect in full play.

In short, we are genetically programmed to care for our offspring as long as they look cute. Our lizard brains can't distinguish between baby humans and baby animals all that well, though.

Just in case that was a serious question. Please don't go St Gabe on me if it wasn't.  why so serious?

It is to offset the fact they many of them are also so damn tasty.

It may also be something to do with being an evolutionary safety mechanism. Cuter = most likely to live until they can eat us... at least with the big predators. Of course, that only works on us since for example, anything not a lion on the plains is meat, fast meat, tough meat, easy meat, forget-it meat... etc.  why so serious?

Why are baby animals so damn adorable?

It's partly genetic/evolutionary, like Tebonas said, but it's also strongly cultural. We've all grown up with cute Disney animals filling our culture, which has reinforced the inherent cute reaction to baby animals.
