I spoke with Colonel Braddock from Rock Ridge about an alliance revolving around Forts.
Colonel Braddock Today at 10:52 PM Between our 3 towns and our allies, we'll probably dominate the forts, so it would be great to have you guys along for that too. There's not a lot of big towns or good duelers in our square so i think we could control all 3 forts easily.
Rock ridge has three towns & are generally a peaceful bunch. It's an option for us, they have some allies nothing major but all local to us.

I have no problems with any of those folks and wouldn't mind having an alliance with any or all of them.

Wow, La Vie are a bunch of nice folks. I was with them for like 30 Levels peacefully just working and stuff. Nice going, Lorekeep!

I'm surprised it's going live that early, I don't think the version of forts on beta has shops (ie. any reason to own a fort) or has fort capture mechanics (all your work belong to us). It did have shops for a tiny period but they were empty of stock and removed soon after.
Still, it might be nice to have some allies. We're certainly not short of targets for our duellists as I understand things :)

Joining a town will allow you to rest in hotels for free. But allows similar level players to duel you. Your choice.

Join early, imo. You learn more about strategery by being knocked around a bit. It teaches you how to manipulate the KO/work system the best. Not to mention that on the off chance you win a duel, it's like half a level in XP in the lower levels. First city is damn near completed, no better time to join.

Even if you are knocked out every 48 hours, free use of a level 5 hotel more than compensates energy/time wise. The only people who have any business working outside town for long periods are adventurers who pay for the character class bonus, because they can sleep for free at a level 4 hotel. Just get in the habit of burning down your energy for whenever you come off knockout cooldown if you aren't going to attack anybody, and ideally work on jobs that allow you to wear decent defensive clothes as you might get some free experience by successfully defending.
If you can pull off being knocked out only when you are low on energy, you basically lose nothing.

If you want to go for a pure, defensive build, pure tactics could be viable. Maybe ? There are some decent jobs later and a high tactic rating could reduce the aim of everyone who attacks you to shit.

I have a feeling my boss is going to have me contact sheet about 40 gigs of photos from a shoot. So I have plenty of time to catch up on this 82 page thread and check in on my guy. His name is RUiN427 obviousely.

Fixed. That's why I love duelling as adventurer when going on the offensive.

I notice almost all the attackers are melee users. Feels weird to be playing a wild west game where my pistol packing soldier is attacked with throwing knives, a sharp foil and a machete. But it's also probably an indication that the melee / strength build is considered more potent, which it does seem to be from the receiving end too.

I think Strength builds are more durable. Has more mileage and better defensively in terms of being attacked while doing jobs. At least you won't get KO'ed easy. Soldier's HP bonus is huge. They get 50% HP per skill point on Health Point. So that's what made it quite attractive to go melee. You hit harder, and you have more HP to absorb hits. But right now I'm wearing Charlatan set and play around with Acid flask. Not doing too badly, as long I don't get hit. Melee Fighters don't put a lot of points on DEX, so they lost a bit of Aim.

Yeah, if you're making your XP from duelling then getting KO'd stops the gravy train. Whereas for me getting KO'd just means some time I can use work clothes without concern.
The strength focus gives them a lot of free health though. My level 31 strength build on the beta server already has a 100hp lead over my 42 dueller. The other main difference is "picking agaves" becomes available extremely early for a pure strength character and really zooms you up the levels.

The gravy train stopped after around 50-60% motivation anyway. I was getting only 30-50 XP per duels at that point not worth the energy spent and risk taken, so I had to pull out eventually and do normal jobs for a day or so.
Also: I can't seem to find any worthwhile armor pieces to replace even one part of the six piece Charlatan sets. The bonus for a complete set is just ridiculous!

You gotta replace it all, not just one piece for it to be worthwhile. The biggest flaw is the required weapon.

Looks like you should be saving up cash to afford a decent gun. (Not Dueling Weapon).

Shootout weapons are pricey. World one seems to have forts up in most zones now, going to watch their further construction, but it seems all you get at the start is the headquarters and the resource block.

Fixed. That's why I love duelling as adventurer when going on the offensive. If by fixed you mean broken, that's a sensible misquote. If you pay for the character class bonus, it doubles it from 2 to 4.

Skills needed for fort battles.
Attacking fort Shooting: Leadership, Aim, Stamina Dodging: Leadership, Dodge, Stamina
Defending fort Shooting: Leadership, Aim, Hiding Dodging: Leadership, Dodge, Hiding
Indian set is awesome for defending. Attacking a mix of mexican set and fancy felt hat or charlatan set is pretty good. Also the gentleman set is good for both.
Note shooting is not a skill needed merely denotes the skills need for shooting at opponents.
Also this is taken from the help file, I don't know if anyone has picked up on this yet but according to the help file only the attacking town and defending town can take part.
"Join a fort battle To take part in the fort battle you have to go to the fort within 24 hours after the battle is called. Players from the attacking town can only take part as attacker, players of the defending town may only take part as defenders.
Help file is dumb though so probably misleading.
We need 10k in the treasury by Tuesday if possible, we have 4k atm.

I don't know what 20k construction points relates to, cause it's actually 41.5k to build a large fort. I wouldn't trust that help file it's a mess, reason we are sure about the price cause some of us are on the beta server atm.

Is it actually worth building a fort? I'm on beta but even there I'm not sure I see the point. Especially since they're seizable assets.
The loss of the acid is mean... and probably has a nice fire going on their forums.
