Just throwing this out there because I thought the Witcher (let's pretend it came out in 2008, since the unpatched 2007 version had lots of issues) had two great cinematics to both open and close the game. Best thing is that that closing one doesn't have any real spoilers: OpeningEndingAnyone have any favourites from this year?

Kane and Lynch easily had the best endings. Ending 1The emo chick is is daughter. Ending 2Best opening... Persona 4.

Ahem.
Russia.
Red Alert 3.
Edit: As far as real openings, the tutorial level of Little Big Planet surely counts. Right? RIGHT?

Call of Duty 4. After you rescue the Cobra Pilot, the immediate Aftermath, and the short level you play for a few minutes.
Left 4 Dead: Dead Air Level: When the Jet Liner comes in to crash in front of you at the airport.

Any cut-scene from Metal Gear Solid 4. Opening. Just about every cut-scene was phenomenally done. No More Heroes. Here's the Jeane scene slowed down. Spoilers. And of course the real ending. Lost Odyssey opening. Game had a number of outstanding cinematics. Lirum's death scene was amazing if a bit overly dramatic and sappy.

My MGS4 pick would be Old Snake crawling through the microwave corridor.

Wrathgate wasn't that great. It used in-game character models, and Bolvar looked like a muppet.

Dude, you just ruined it for me.... he really does look like a muppet and I didn't realize it until you said it. Shit. Now whenever I will think back oh-so semi-fondly of that halfassed cinematic, I will only be able to think of 'wakka wakka' whenever I see him talk.

That why I liked it though. I'd rather they try this kind of thing more than what they have been doing (ie, nothing). It's not as good as their CGI and probably nowhere near as good as anything in this thread. But it stands out entirely due to context. And because more people will probably see that than any of the better ones anyway. I liked the WAR opening from launch. But I don't really have a discerning opinion about these types of things.

The opening of CoD4. The rest of the game was horseshit in single player but that opening was pretty brutal and awesome the first time you saw it.

Could I add a "worst cut-scene" entry? The Fallout 3 ending. Monumental let-down.

I thought that was a powerpoint presentation. There's a cutscene???Edit: And the MSG4 cutscenes are phenomenal both in craftsmanship and content. They're the payoff for some of the crazy shit from earlier games and answered every question including whether or not Meryl is in fact a whore. She is.

CoD4 is a 2007 game. My Apologies, the way all the website video card reviewers seem to use it as a default "Lets see what FPS this card gives" along with Oblivion (another 2007 game?), Crysis (no card can actually run it on max settings) and some other game I can't remember, I could have sworn I only played it in 2008.

To be fair, it did launch pretty late in 2007 and the OP did include a game that actually launched in 2007. If UnSub can excuse it...

Counts for openings but it's not a cinematic. It trumps all cinematics because of that. Rasix remembered several good ones that I had forgotten.

Hum, CoD4 is 2007? Alright, the fight-fight cutscene at the end of MGS4.

Obligatory WoW 'Wrathgate' comment.
I looked that up and watched it, and the in-game graphics look very dated now. It was well made, but it's like watching a 16-bit game.

Yeah, it wasn't nearly as good as, say, any Diablo 2 cinematic and those are all old as balls. Not just in terms of graphics, but the dialogue and voice acting... I mean they were "good enough" but they weren't really Blizzard good, weren't good enough to be part of a discussion like this. "I was beginning to wonder if you'd show up!" "I couldn't let the Alliance have all the fun!" Yawn. Then the Lich King gets bombed. "This... isn't... over!" Blah. If you want to feed me dialogue this generic and have me eat it up, your project's name had better start with Star and end with Wars.
