By "what that means" I meant what are the ramifications for skipping Tortage.

I'm talking about keeping players past the first 30 days... or even past the 1st 30min.
Players reading quest text? lol

I personally can forgive lack of immersion on noob island. It's to be expected.
Locking a new player into a zone that long is silly. I mean, 19 levels of a noob area? That's a tad much.
I was listening to people complain in /OOC about wanting to leave the entire time I was there. If it's that prevalent a problem they need to make an easy out.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game. I'm just afraid they are loosing people that aren't playing for more than an hour before they ebay their CD key.

I didn't read 99% of the quest text until the noble district.

Once I got to the noble district, for whatever reason, I read all the quests. Now I read Every Single One of them.

Fuck did they write it well.

If i recall correctly, it tells you in that red text when it asks "Really?". Been a bit since i left, i know i read it and was like..."uh, never mind then".

All in all, you have the option of skipping it, and still leveling up in the overland (day) quests.

You know you're scraping the bottom of the complaint barrel if a game has Schild reading MMORPG quest text :P

Edit: not that AoC doesn't have flaws, but Tortage and newbie quests are not it.

Yes I like the quest text in Tortage too. However one of the things that bugs me about the game is that there's no faction/alignment system in the game (at least in the newbie zone which I'm still in) but the Tortage quests, if you do them all, are constantly bouncing between quests of "good" (e.g. the entire Resistance storyline) and "evil" (or at least amoral).

Morality doesn't exist in Hyboria. It's all grey. It's not that obvious in the game, but it is in the books.

I like that there's no ALL SEEING EYE that knows if you've been offending Faction_A that then goes to inform Joe_Guard_002 at the gates of Faction A that you need to be killed.

On the other hand, it would be of interest to provide slightly different outcomes to quests depending on what approach you take. Nothing that would affect your whole toon in the larger game, but just within a particular quest. It'd be neato.

Dude, it was MMPOG gold when I went to the Plane of Growth for the first time in EQ1, we killed 1 mob before the entire raid fell appart... so I recalled back to my Bind point in Kelethin... and to my great surprise, killing a single mob in the plane of growth put me at max negative faction for the entire city. Luckly I wasn't bound near a guard. As irritating as that was, it was a 'unique experiance' and made me be a lot more cautious about which raids I went on.

Well, you can no longer switch instances unless you're already next to the spawn point. Someone was looking for people for a group, would have been my first, and I couldn't switch to their instance without running across the zone. And then I found myself in Paragon City in a cape and everything there worked.

Yeah holy crap that thing is pissing me off.  There's nothing worse than running to a camp to find out there are 4 people camping it and having to run 10+ minutes just so you can change instances and run back....

Yea, I do find it unfortunate that they have chosen the path of "Lets make them run arround pointlessly" as a way to delay leveling rather than simply making the content for challenging.

I felt having to run around was already the largest method of slowing progress without having to run to a spawn point in order to get a group.

- This must be five yards from a rezz pad to switch instances is pissing me off.
- More upset about the most important changes like that not being put in the patch notes.
- Went to that instance Iridian Ravine (or whatever) in Potain.  Tried to kill two bosses but they kept glitching and running away.  One was named "Bowmaster so-and-so", he was not an archer and had no bow.  The other was "Blademaster so-and-so", he did not have a sword.  Both the bowmaster and the blademaster tried to punch us to death.  Come on guys, just come on.
- I don't see the point of spellweaving, it looks cool but that's about it.
- The game past forty is quite simply only half finished.
- Resource zones need more fucking electrum.

Edit: I forgot.  For some obscene reason you can't mail tradeskill resources.  That's bullshit.

There are at least 6 Electrum nodes in the Purple Lotus Swamp.  I haven't bothered mapping any of the other resource zones.

I finished tortage a couple of nights ago and I have had no urge to log back in. Tortage was atmospheric and some degree of fun, but when I was just leveling I rapidly got sick of running back and forth to complete quests. With tortage over and no destiny quest I have no interest anymore.

I guess thats the pint you need to have people and make friends.I did group with a couple of guys and it was fun, but it rapidly turned into "wait for the bimbo to respawn and hope we get her before the other person. oh theres 3 of us. oh wel lets wait... hey you 2 ran ahead to clear the corridor and got too far away and she despawned. so we have to wait again. and do it twice before we figure out whats wrong (Actually _I_ figured it out... with my phsychic abilities.)

So yeah. I'll pobably be canceling my account. Good game, pity my comuter only bearly runs it and the annoying quest flaws...

The providence in kami is better, mostly because anywhere you want to go is a straight walk, not a bunch of switch backs. However, the valley is very pretty and well done..nice feeling to it.

I just went up as high as I could and jumped to death teleport around.

But yeah - poor design in that there's way too much back and forth.

And also - yesterday I could not get the stupid res pads to switch instances.  I had to leave zone and come back instead.

When you die you get a debuff (icon on the bottom left of your screen that looks like a demon skull). It lasts 25 min or when you get back to your tombstone and click on it, whichever comes first. Aside from that, no penalty that I know of.

Just look at the rez pads to switch instances like the train stations in COH. You couldn't switch instances anywhere in the zone. Had to run/jump/fly to the station.

What's even worse is that if you logoff and go to play the next day it's still on the timer. It doesn't count down while you're offline.

This may only occur at higher level.  I've only tied twice or so, and don't recall seeing a tombstone.  Or a debuff, for that matter.  But my highest character is only 14.

That might explain it.  I died once in the first volcano instance, and the second time running back from the mushroom collection area on White Sands isle.  I may have been 10 at that point, I forget where in there I hit it.  I was doing daytime missions to level until I could get the next night quest.  Probably because I didn't kill the [BOSS] slaver guy at the top of the volcano mission.

Having to do the same thing now, 13 to 15.

Can't say there's a lack of quests in Tortage.  Dear lord, there's ! EVERYWHERE during the day.  Though I need to find better shops.  The only ones I've seen just sell food.

The death debuff is absolutely tiny though, really not worth wasting time over trying to get your tombstone IMO, unless it's really easy or you're going that way anyway.

As I've said it before.

If you don't have 3 tombstones all the time once you hit level 10, you're doing it wrong.

And by wrong, I mean you're traveling inefficiently.

And therefore leveling slowly.

As such, doing it wrong.

It does stack from what I've seen. Once you stack about 5 of them that's a 10% reduction in damage.
