Watch out for Veronica's finisher!

Also re: Making sense

Link, Heihachi, Yoda, Vader in Soul Calibur.

Yoshimitsu at least fits passably.

Soul Caliber doesn't have a mechanic that is so core to the series that putting in characters that couldn't use that mechanic would make everyone go "Huh?"

Re: Soul Caliber making sense

I don't disagree.  But at least with SC you can just ignore one anachronistic character (well, two because of the 'apprentice' guy).

Over and out.

Sure, mechanically they work - though Heihachi using fists and feet in a weapon-based game was a little "huh?". But in terms of jarringness, Yoda is pretty jarring.

Lots of footage of DC Universe vs. MK III:  http://www.gametrailers.com/gametrailerstv_player.php?ep=26&ch=1

Looks good, but still looks like MK.  Probably not going to be able to rip out Superman's spine though.

Oh fuck, I was still hoping this was some kinda joke.  And why the hell can't you rip out Superman's spine?  I mean, okay, because he's Superman.  But they're clearly ignoring that or else he'd be invincible.

The idea is stupid, the gameplay doesn't look so bad though.  I am actually digging those graphics, at least much more than DC online.

As stupid as the idea might be, this looks kickass.

Don't know about Sub Zero's classic but they've kept Scorpions Flamebreath fatality in.

Nobody said Fatalities were out of the game.  We said that you won't be able to do them on certain characters & that certain characters wouldn't be able to do them.  Characters that don't have fatalities are supposed to have a finishing move, it just won't be 'out of character' for the license.

Okay, but if I'm Sub-Zero and I beat Superman (and my butthole puckered even typing that) what do I do to him at the end?

Schild, the man who seems to know about these things, quite clearly stated at the beginning of the thread

There are no fatalities.

I haven't seen anywhere that you won't be able to do fatalaties on certain characters - source for this or is it guesswork? I also wonder if there'll be arena fatalities as in, well, every other MK game. Haven't seen this clarified - I'd like to see Batman stressing out with guilt because he inadvertantly hurled Kano into spiked-rollers-o-death.

Source for it is the interview with the producer I posted.

Schild's guessing about fatalities versus my repeating verbatim what the man in charge of creating the game says on camera are two entirely different things.

I thought Boon just said that certain characters wouldn't be able to do fatalities so must have missed the bit about not having fatalities done to them too. CBA to sit through it again so I'll take your word on it.

Anyway, I don't know why I care. As much as I'm a MK fanboi, I'm not so much of one as to buy a console solely to play this on.

MK characters and probably the DC villains can do fatalities.

The DC heroes will do something violent, yet non-lethal. Also: no blowing up Superman or atomising Batman, I'd suspect.

NECRO:

So this is available now.  Anyone played it yet? Is it as bad as it portended or is it actually playable?  I've read mixed reviews so far and the major criticism is that there's just not really a lot to it.

Hm, did they release an XBL/PSN demo for it?
