I remember sifting through the bag as a kid, picking out the marshmallows...  Heart

I would always eat the oatish bits first and save the marshmellows until the end.  De-fucking-licious.  Just the thought of them now makes me gag, however.

There's a box of those sitting on the desk beside me right now, and I can honestly say I have zero urge to do that.

This is how I spent my morning. The first bite was awesome, last bite was certainly not.

Everyone should do that once in their life.

Before 40  Ohhhhh, I see.

Also, zombie house from two pages back, only awesome with a helicopter. Otherwise, a deathtrap when the zombies pile so high trying to get in you're forced to wait two years before you can even open a window. Might as well dig a shelter unground. With a lot of bows, arrows, and slingshots.

There are actually a bunch of those.  I went looking for the source of that picture and found this:

Unbelievable ...111 giga-pixel image

edit: fucking around with this and zoomed all the way in just to see how far it went. I found a pigeon that was out of focus but as I zoomed out, it basically disappeared and kept zooming out. However they produced this, it's definitely awe inspiring...and scary

Unbelievable - what the heck was that produced with? There's enough resolution to read bumper stickers from a mile away, it seems.

From the site:
Quote
The result of several months of work is the biggest panoramic photograph of the world; a 613,376-pixel wide by 181,248-pixel high photograph, consisting of 9,750 images, taken at an altitude of 60 meters from the highest platform of Torre Schindler, in Isla de la Cartuja. Just as a matter of interest, if we printed this image, it would take up to 13,800 square meters, which is more than two football stadiums.

So it is probably safe to assume they had some high quality zoom/telephoto lenses and a high megapixel digital camera which they took the shots they then pieced together, basically.

'Reality' is the only word in the language that should always be used in quotes.

I'm also in the business of doing exactly what they've done, albeit not at the scale they're looking at. The biggest I've made so far (and it turned out a turd because of the sun hiding behind clouds for a few minutes) was 4gpixel or so.

The main ingredients are

1) A robot like http://gigapansystems.com/gigapan-epic-pro.html
2) Patience, as my 3000 picture panoramas took somewhere around 1.5 hours to shoot
3) Luck with the lighting (alternatively patience enough to stop the robot and wait for the lighting to return)

After that it's just a matter of having a machine with enough memory and the will to grind through it all. There are some cases where f.ex cars or people don't work well with the joins, in which case you either take a new picture or two, or you set the FOV on the robot to more than the actual FOV the camera has so you have some leeway with how much data you can throw away in the joins.

I was looking around in the picture for a good soild 5 minutes and couldn't find a single sign of life. Was starting to remind me of a zombie film in a way. Was starting to wonder if they edited out people untill I came across a street full of them. Was pretty surreal.

Not sure what that has to do with anything, but I'm sure you're right...but where?

I have not nearly the time or OCD to do a thorough-enough search.  Ohhhhh, I see.

For some reason these type of pics depress me.  It's a sunny day in what looks like a beautiful city and here's an old man sitting alone and here's a gas station with no sign of life.  Here's a lone rower and here's a beautiful statue that no one bothers to admire.  It's like a snapshot of humanity frozen in time and this single moment, caught forever, will never happen again.
