I believe it's a real battle, it was part of Boston's The Big Picture - 2008 in Photographs set.  I HIGHLY recommend going there as they have continually have some of the best pictures on the net.

It reminds me of those flying skull things from Rifts. But I'm failing at teh internetwebs at trying to find an image of them. I think it's the Death's Head Transport. But I could be wrong. My memory of the picture is 15 years old.

Did anyone else notice the 5 mini bugs underneath it?

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

It looks like those 5 little bugs are hiding from the big one.

I cannot evaluate its awesomeness because I have no idea WTF it is.  Is that the shape of Texas and California?  In poker chips?  Does Texas produce a lot of poker wealth relative to California and is artistically bragging about it?  I hope not, because nothing irks me more than Texans bragging about their shithole desert of a state.

Well given the filename I believe it's supposed to be Shanghai but I can't confirm that since the most recognizable features of the Shanghai skyline (the Pearl Tower and the Jin Mao Tower) don't seem to be represented there.

For some reason I'm reminded of the Commodore 64. Shame the keys look like the keys on that pretty little Apple keyboard - if you're prepared to compromise there, I'm not sure why you'd want to be carrying that shape around. I think the $300ish Atom sub-notebooks are more useful.

I think they are. You're looking across Pudong towards the river. The remote shore is Shanghai proper -- the Bund. The Pearl is over on the right side near the back, with the red dice on top. The ball is the green and red square. The Jin Mao is probably the one with the blue poker chips. Which is sorta right on color, really wrong on shape.

Skinner: Well, I was wrong. The lizards are a godsend.
Lisa: But isn’t that a bit short-sighted? What happens when we’re overrun by lizards?
Skinner: No problem. We simply release wave after wave of Chinese needle snakes. They’ll wipe out the lizards.
Lisa: But aren’t the snakes even worse?
Skinner: Yes, but we’re prepared for that. We’ve lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat.
Lisa: But then we’re stuck with gorillas!
Skinner: No, that’s the beautiful part. When wintertime rolls around, the gorillas simply freeze to death.

I think you meant to say Spectrum 48k? C64 was beige & had big clunky keys.

Not really. It wasn't a reference to the color or type of keys, but a computer in a fairly conventional shape of keyboard. The Spectrum was more compact - the reason I'm reminded of (something like) the C= 64 is that it is wide enough to be inconvenient as something to stick in your backpack. Amstrad CPC 464 (or Spectrum +2, +3) would be an even better example perhaps, but who the fuck here knows what those were? The keys on this are nothing like either the C= 64 "full range" or Spectrum "dead flesh" keys. What would have been the keyboard-sized 8-bit computer that had the most similar keys? Perhaps the Oric 1.

Ah well. Comparisons aside, I don't think that carrying a computer around that's the shape of a keyboard is very useful. And if you're not carrying it around, I don't think the idea of the computer being in the keyboard shell is that useful these days either.

I have to admit I don't get the point of that "keyboard PC".  Why not just carry a PDA and a roll-up keyboard?  Or a Micro PC?  If you're going to have a crappy keyboard, might as well have a decent screen and some horsepower (and the option to use a standard keyboard and monitor when convenient).

I'm happy with my 12" HP notebook, if you're going to go smaller than that, you need to go all the way down to pocket-sized to be worth it, IMO.  Too big for a pocket and too wimpy for a docking station is just a bucket of suck.
