A few years ago, I had to drive under a bridge every day on my way to work, and every day there was this guy hanging out under it sitting in a tire. For months and months, every day I'd see him sitting there, hanging out in his tire.

More pictures here.You know, when ever they build a new "tallest building", it usually beats the previous by 10 feet or something stupid like that. From what I can tell, this building, when done, will beat the current tallest by 800 feet or something insane like that. It's going to have 162 floors. The current tallest has 101. I have no idea how the fuck they are doing this. The pressure on the bottom must be insane. Also, how the fuck are they going to get the cranes back down when done..... But seriously:  Filming the Half Life 2 movie just got a lot easier. Bring in Georgian riot police, and your golden. |

The cranes disassemble. Chunks will be airlifted off I imagine. That is one crazy building. Dubai has way too much money but at least they do some nifty cool engineering shit (this thing, indoor ski runs in the middle of the desert, unreal hotels, man made islands shaped like the world) with it instead of just blow it in the South of France like the Saudis do. EDIT: And it's not just the tallest building, it is the tallest man-made structure. |

I've think I've seen it posted on these forums before, but here's a pic of Dubai's planned "building in motion". Twisting floors are just one of several futuristic features in the building, the first of several Mr. Fisher hopes to build with a similar design. Wind turbines installed between each floor, he said, will generate enough electricity to power the entire building, and lifts will allow penthouse residents to park their cars at their apartments.
A second version, to be built in Moscow, would have a retractable helicopter pad. Both structures, at more than 1,300 feet, would be taller than the Empire State Building.
Even the method of construction would be unorthodox.
Mr. Fisher said each floor will be prefabricated in an Italian factory and then shipped to the site to be attached to the core. Assembling a building in this fashion, he said, will require only 80 technicians and take only 20 months, saving tens of millions of dollars, for a total cost of $700 million to build.
