Tell me again that they didn't go to Heaven if you watch that clip from 2:51 onward. Does every new universe on the other side of a black hole come equipped with heavenly lights, celestial doorways, and angelic guides?

Such a strange movie in terms of the mix of tone and look.

When the body shuts down, we see heaven or hell as our neurons stop.  It's just a dream lightshow at the end of your life, despite what retards might say.

Interestingly, going through a black hole and having your matter remade has the same effect on the neurons and so they saw the lightshow as they passed through, but were clearly in another universe/galaxy once they got reassembled.

Or something.  Who gives a fuck ?

Bushfire approaches Australia's Siding Spring space observatory, Sunday. It's now damaged, yet to be assessed.

I kept wondering what this Black hole movie was and how I missed it. Then I realized it was made before I was born.

For some reason I saw Empire first. Probably because my dad owned it on old skool Laserdisc.

Ya know, I think the only thing I ever saw on laser disc were some crappy college advertisement movies my school guidance calendar was peddling when we were looking at colleges.

Yeah, it made a bit of an impression on me as a kid :

1 - Maximillian literally guts Psycho and it's all shown, including his strangled death scream.
2 - Drained crew member unmasking scared the crap out of me, even tho I giggle at the lameness of it now.
3 - Evil Scientist gets smashed to fuck by a beam and Max doesn't give a fuck.  He bleeds out agonisingly.
4 - Evil Scientist screams with no mouth while locked inside the six armed Shiva that is his creation.
5 - Kate MacCrea gets her fucking head drilled by evil soul sucking lasers and DOESN'T LIKE IT MUCH.  Rape scene ahoy.

It's exactly 25 percent cool as fuck, 25 percent cheeseball nonsense and 50%  ACK!

VINCENT was cool as fuck though.  And he kept calling Pizer a Cunt, which was awesome.

*late to the party again*

Maximilian Schell (the actor for Reinhart, not the robot!) was great. I wish there were more films featuring him.*

I saw the Black Hole a single time on TV when  8-9 year-ish and it stuck in my mind. Maximillian shredding the man, and the dystopian finale (them barley surving and reaching the escape craft, then it turns out it's programmed to fly into the black hole. THE END) where quite a brainfuck for young Calapine.

*Fun Fact: Maximilian Schell is Austrian and also the godfather of Angelina Jolie.

IIRC, The Black Hole was Disney's first PG rated movie.  Was a bit of a controversy at the time.

Close but not quite - Treasure Island (1950) was their first PG film followed closely by The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie (sic) men (1952).

Maximilian Schell (the actor for Reinhart, not the robot!) was great. I wish there were more films featuring him.*

He's still making films. Last thing I saw him in was Rian Johnson's "Brothers Bloom" but he was also Cardinal Alba in John Carpenter's Vampire$ (and Tea Leoni's dad in Deep Impact). Still think his finest hour was in Peckinpah's Cross of Iron though.

The Black Hole was made of awesome when I saw it as a kid.

Maximilan reigning in hell with Doctor Max Reinhards fearful eyes glimpsing out of him was one of the iconic images for me back then.

The roboter was reigning, and the Doctor was his little bitch, just like he was the Doctors bitch in life.

Maybe I misinterpreted that. It could have been coincidence that he looked like the devil in that shot.

Naw, that's what I always thought too--Maximilian imprisons Reinhardt inside his body for unending torment (they come together in an almost sexual embrace right there at the end) and joins the aristocracy of Hell.

Ah, good memories.

Shit, that was Disney? I remember thinking what a dark movie it was when I was a kid.

Disney didn't used to be too afraid of doing darker things once in a while.  Something Wicked This Way Comes was another one that always gave me creeps.

Old Yeller, Dragonslayer, Never Cry Wolf, Night Crossing.   Disney's only been touchy-feely only since they created Touchstone to do the more mature stuff.

Well to be honest, all the Disney movies have a darkness to them - evil step-mothers/sisters, poison fruit, orphans, parents dieing, kids getting lost and having to deal with it. I think kids love going to Disney World because there is a chance their parents might not make it out of there.

Nah, the error was partly mine. While both the Roboter and the actor are called Max(imillian), the character he plays was actually called Hans.

On the plus side, I will now have reason to rewatch that glorious movie once again, since I obviously need a refresher on the small details.

Sure, if you ever find yourself in Klagenfurt, we can pop the DVD in. Be advised I only work in IT and spend most of my money on Steam sales, though. So slim chance of you getting a Golf out of me, hell even my GF didn't get a whole car from me yet. She had to settle for half a Passat.  why so serious?

Umm, how the hell do you make a train hit a house? Did she surreptitiously lay down track leading up to the house before stealing the train?

Simple, by driving the train so quickly that when you reach the end of the line, you just smash straight through everything.

This is the spot:

This is the side-view, and you can compare that to one of the pictures calapine came up with, to get a better sense of the situation:
