I've always wondered how a ship that size could sustain impacts large enough to make the crew do the funky chicken without breaking up.

As far as I know, the "in universe" explanation is that the ships use "inertial dampers" to keep the crew from laminating themselves across the back of the room every time the ship jumps to lightspeed, and the jiggling every time they get hit is a result of the damage fucking with the dampening system slightly.

I read it that the computer could not predict the impacts so for a micro milisecond it was out of alignment, so it lets part of the energy through.

I assumed it had to do with battle scenes being really boring if it's just them sitting in a room with nothing happening.  Ohhhhh, I see.

A better question is why a kinetic impact large enough to fuck with the inertial dampeners doesn't send the ship flying hundreds if not thousands of KM from the point of impact. There's no gravity keeping the ship in place. How are the engines able to react faster than the ID system to an unpredicted force.

The ship just reverses the polarity of the neutron flow and everything is fine.

He rode a pale horse
Its breath was fire
The gore of His enemies upon its breast
Forth He went across the land
The heavens wore many colors
And did echo with thunder
No need had He for words
And all who beheld Him fled, or fell

Plant yourself like a tree
Haven't you noticed? We've been sharing our culture with you all morning.
The sun will shine on us again, brother

One of co-workers had a problem with the sun through the windows this week...

Because lowering the blinds like a third and tilting the slats so that they block the sun is apparently impossible. (I have the same problem in the kitchen at my office in the mornings, people around here have some aversion to having the blinds anywhere but completely up at all times.)

Though perhaps the reflection off the other building was your coworker's issue.

I know from experience on that side of the building* that they tilt up enough to keep the adjacent building glare out. We can't figure out who did it to ask specifics, though.

As the resident window desk person who controls the blinds for my half of the room, I keep them always down, angled accordingly.

The girl who controls the blinds for the other half of the room keeps them down and shut all the time. Then turns a light on.

Well I've seen normal navel oranges here for 3 bucks a lbs. recently.  That's also a newer hybrid crop orange/mandarin so that's probably another dollar.. and the other 2 is for the peeling I presume.   awesome, for real
