Yep. Pretty sure that is a cat.  Face is wrong for a racoon, and I dont think I have ever seeen an all black Racoon either.  They are usually  Black / Brown / Grey in stripes / patterns.

Surely it is a raccoon.  It looks too thick, it's eyes too spooky/shiny, and it has a pointed face.  Not to mention all the evil pouring off of it.

It's a golden raccoon?

Does that mean you inherit a chocolate dump or something?

Maybe most of the cats you've met have actually been raccoons?

It was probably next to the "No Guns Allowed" sign - which is just as unfortunately necessary.

That no guns allowed thing surprised me a little when I went to my mother's house for Easter. She wanted to stop at Applebee's while we were out and there was a sign on the door saying something to the effect of Applebee's does not allow firearms. I asked my mother when that became a thing and she had no idea. The sign was not fresh so it had been there awhile. Guess that might be more a sign that I haven't been to Applebee's in ages. I never saw signs like that anywhere in northern Ohio in the past... but I guess it is a thing now.

I worked in a large mall in Mississippi in the early '90's. That mall had such signs even then.

This has indeed been a thing down here for quite a while.

Ohio didn't have to explicitly allow "Open carry" due to the nature of the CC law that was passed 11 years ago. Far more people than you might realize bring their gun with them into places, it's just hidden, though since there's still a lot of "Wtf, you irresponsible asshole" mentality left here, even in Southern Ohio. In short: We're not rednecks, we're Midwesterners, which as you know is a completely different mentality towards things from the South.

The reason you're seeing the signs pop-up is because of the idiots in other states pushing. When Applebees, Kroger or Starbucks says, "no guns allowed" due to the Open Carry morons in other places, they then post it at ALL establishments across the country.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.

I noticed that too, but to me the obvious amateurishness of the sign just makes it funnier to imagine somebody being fooled by it.    Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?
