No, it's a breed that shitty owners are more likely to buy. People buy pitbulls for protection (or to make a statement), and that sets them up for a very miserable existence.

It used to be german shepherds and dobermans - now you rarely see them behaving like the archetypal wildeyed frothy pitbull on a chain in a bare yard. It's the damn owners.

But to name a few others, I've seen some REALLY nasty labs, retrievers and heaven help me lhasa apsos.

Despite my protestations, my sister won't train her pit-mix properly, but he is very well loved and socialised:

Dogs bite. How bad a dog bite is depends on the size of the dog, the strength of the jaws, and a few bred-in instincts -- as well as the dog's training and own disposition.

My entire feeling towards pitbulls (and a few other breeds) is simply this: All other things being equal, a pitbull's bite is gonna be worse than a Labradors. Just the nature of it's mouth, teeth, and jaws.

But that's it. Doesn't absolve owners of the task of training Labs or make pitbulls bad. It's just how they're bred and built.

I'll throw in this pic I took of my I sister's dog Harley. Half pit bull, half rottie. One of the least aggressive dogs I've ever known. Environment and upbringing determine a dog's behaviour, not breed. Though I admit, I would never want him to bite me if he actually got mad.

It is a picture, just not very funny.
