Pretty sure that was inspired by this Woot shirt, or vise-versa. And if that is in this thread and why you posted it, forgive me, just got back to the forums and I'm catching up.

I haven't lurked the net long enough. "Jesus Christ, call the Fire Marshall!" First contribution. Probably old, probably even in this thread somewhere. Found on George Takei's list recently:

Obsessing over stats, and tracking the progress of your hopeful munchkins over the following season isn't like D&D? Weird. Sounds exactly the same.

Nah, he's right. D&D requires some creativity and lateral thinking skills. It really is more like Pokemon except you don't get to choose what the Pokemon do.
I think it's really most like accounting and MMOG Min/Maxing.

That's probably the best nerd analogy. I disagree, those can and are both done solo. Fantasy Football requires a group. A group that meets and talks to each other. A group that obsesses over minor details in things that some external god controls. That god being the NFL. NFL is the DM, and fantasy footballers are the awful neckbeards of the sporting world. Can you even imagine how douchey a bar dedicated to Fantasy Football would be. It'd be the social polar opposite of the back room of a comic book shop on D&D Night, except EXACTLY the same.

I consider Fantasy Football to be akin to a Stock market sim. You try to buy stocks cheap and make as much profit as you can during the course of a 16 week season.

I've done both. Haven't done D&D PnP in a very long time though, still active in FF. Fantasy Football people get together once a year, maybe, and draft a team. Then most of the rest of the season get do the rest online by themselves, sometimes offering a trade. It's a very non-consuming game outside bullshitting about it with friends and other random people.

Just because your Fantasy Football league isn't super hardcore doesn't mean that there are not people who do the equivalent of wearing replica armor and beating on each other with foam swords.
