Yeah, a friend linked just the original photo with no fingers on facebook and all I saw was an ass. I thought it was just a joke until someone said it was the actual design. Some Graphic Designer was REALLY disgruntled on that last project they completed before quitting. |

It was used by James Ellroy in American Tabloid (1995), set in the late '50s, though this is not that exact quote. I'm sure he didn't invent it. The Japanese book seems to be this one, the 2009 edition, which is apparently an advanced translation workbook about common mistranslation issues. I guess this would be about translating an idiom for meaning in context, not word for word. |

I actually meant the context over the literal book its in (so, thanks Severian). What grade, etc. the context of whats presented seems fairly obvious. Its a textbook and it has an english bit and theres space to write.

I can't tell if it's sarcasm with you guys.  Besides, as this is on the countryside they are definitely volunteers doing this for free - Freiwillige Feuerwehr Edit: Ok, I did some more research:
A woman saw the duck and called the police. The police called the Feuerwehr, which sent a team of 11. They practiced ice rescue a on this pond a few weeks ago (with a human victim) but for the guy pushing the duck it was the first non-drill ice rescue mission. Normally ducks can't get stuck as they have a natural heat-exchange in their feet, which keeps them constantly cold, thus preventing any melting water which could freeze again. An bird expert they interviewed said a reason this one got stuck was that's an Indian Running Duck and due to it's slippery feet may have fallen and then frozen with the belly, as they don't have the heat-exchange system there. It's the only Indian Running Duck among a bunch of wild ducks at the pond, it just appeared last summer.
