In my mail box today:
Greetings
The staff at White Wolf wants to invite you to join us in the ever-expanding EVE Online universe. We're having a lot of fun, and we know you will too, especially as you find yourself among other people who share your interest in WW pen-and-paper games, as we work together to forge a star-spanning empire.
As you may know, in November 2006, White Wolf embarked on a new phase of the company's future, by merging with the Icelandic company CCP. Those Vikings are the creative force behind EVE Online, and the new company that has been forged is already hard at work on a World of Darkness MMO.
At White Wolf, we first started to explore the virtual world of EVE Online late in 2005 with a small, but dedicated crew of capsuleers, all drawn from staff members and employees. White Wolf Enterprises (WWES) remains an active corporation within EVE Online. Now, we are making a no-bones-about-it push to have other WW fans join us. The players of EVE Online have seen what White Wolf can do in the form of physical products related to their favorite MMO with the launch of EVE The Exiled, the first expansion for the EVE Collectible Card Game, and recent prestige book, The Art of EVE.

I can only imagine the e-drama that would emerge from a fleet filled with Vampire players.
EVE is the perfect game for it.

The rules regarding star radiation and how close a vampire can fly to a sun before being dusted would be a bitch, though.

White Wolf employees will be set to Antediluvian or Archmage status by default. This will be denied strenuously, however.

We are aware of the situation and are looking into it. Expect a rapid rise in their membership, followed by a substantial fall in their capital asset value. They shall never again be allowed to build up anywhere in Eve. There are no WWES. Goodbye. -dbp PS this corp is run by WW employees. WW own CCP, whose scrupulous fairness and unwillingness to deviate from a strict moral code has, to be frank, not gone unmentioned. How can this possibly go wrong?

Heh heh heh, double funny:
1. CCP playing the game as players, yet again.
2. The typical EVE veteran reaction of "war-dec them and kill them till they leave the game" that immediately follows any announcement that's as carebear and "come let's all be friends" as that was.

I suspect White Wolf employees are highly unlikely to have access to EVE dev tools, and while it's possible they'll have some inside gossip -- it's been my experience that acquisitions like that end up fairly cliquish. I'd suspect the White Wolf folks are playing EVE more to get a feel for how CCP does MMORPGs, and are doing so openly so that there's not an OMG! CCP IS CHEATING! thing later. I do hope at least some of their story and design guys play, since that'll give them a better ability to give decent feedback to CCP when early design choices are being made.

CCP owns WW, not the other way around. And all of the North American GMs are sitting in CCP's new Georgia offices. So, tools are available.

What? To every fucking Tom, Dick, and Harry? You think the White Wolf guys have access? Why? Who would give it to them? They're not even a software dev house -- they're a content and paper-dev house. Claiming the White Wolf guys will have access to Dev tool is like claiming I can go juggle moon rocks because I work for a NASA contractor.

Yes, I think the White Wolf guys have access considering the GM area is 20 feet from the WoD Online Dev area and 10 feet below the WoD Offline Dev area. Also, they are a software dev house (WoD ONLINE!). As to who is going to give them access to them. That would be the North American GMs, Tom, Dick, and Harry. Lurk more before posting uniformed, thanks. Maybe you can practice juggling your moon rocks.

Uh-oh. I think that there is a real risk of this breaking out into full-blown people typing words at each other over the internet.

I'm not much of a forum warrior, but if you think anyone in CCP would be stupid enough to give ANYTHING to the WW people after what T20 did, AND after CCP has hired someone *just* to police their own employees in this area, you're not so smart. At this point, I suspect the ramifications for doing something like this would be legal, not just 'oh I lost a crappy GM job'.

Giving privileged access to systems to people because they work in proximity to people who needed access is profoundly stupid. It seems like a pretty extra-ordinary claim that CCP is doing this. Unless he is claiming inside knowledge of CCP practices, I don't see how Dark's opinion could be informed.

I sit pretty close to our chief financial officer, surprisingly he has yet to give me access to the corporate accounts. The network admin who is a stone's throw away doesn't give me admin access so I can rifle through other peoples' computers either. The woman who sits next to me still won't give me her bank card's PIN number. Fuck, that bastard of a janitor won't even let me into the supply room so that I can sniff the chemicals. They are all out to get me.

You are correct. It is profoundly stupid. And that will not stop people from doing it. I'm trying to see where I am claiming they are doing it however, because I'm not saying that they are doing it right this minute and I saw it with my own eyes zomg rumor on the internet. The only inside knowledge I claimed is knowing the proximity of their respective departments to each other. Considering I was inside that office 10 days ago, I'd call that informed. You are retarded, have ass burgers, no one in the company likes you, or you have the personality of a turnip. You also haven't the first clue about social engineering for fun and profit. I recommend The Prince as homework. Machiavellian tactics will get you so much more than the things you have listed it's not even funny. Manipulating people to attain access to things you normally wouldn't have is an art. And there are some very good artists, and some work in the games industry. How many Warhammer beta keys do you think got handed out as a "favor". How many character transfers occur for free because of a hook up from a friend? Office politics and who you know, and more importantly, what you know about them can get you the exact information that you facetiously listed above. To be clear. I never said that CCP (p.s. White Wolf only exists in spirit, call them CCP North America) was handing out toys to CCP NA employees in EVE Online. I said that that access was available. I'm still waiting for my berating.

I like your examples of what 'manipulating people' (which in your examples only require sucking up) will do. Beta keys are worthless in actual dollar values. Character transfers.... wow... that's like a whole 15 bucks in most games? Who gives a fuck? Yet Miasma is stupid for not getting access to and using things that would get him not only fired, but prosecuted if he was caught? He must be a moron for not skimming 15 bucks a month from the company and getting all the character tranfers he wants! Telling someone to read Machiavelli makes you sound like you're 15 (and I'd say the same thing about your forum name except mine is equally stupid) and have never worked in a job where you were more than another cubicle flunkie. Unfortunately for people who read The Prince and think they've discovered how to take over their local Dunder-Mifflin equivilent, most people aren't manipulated nearly as easily as you think. Sucking up *does* work though, at least on some people... I'd keep with that so you can get all the beta keys you want

I'm sorry. I was only using those examples because I'm posting on a forum where a whole bunch of people obsess over various MMO's. And if you think that "sucking up" is manipulating people then you don't know any more than Miasma. Yes sir, beta keys are worthless in actual dollar values, until you know that some individuals purchase them on the internet for actual dollars, or they write checks to employees of MMOs in beta in order to get them. Everything has an actual dollar value. You just need to find the person who has something that another person is willing to pay money for. The key phrase in your statements about Miasma being stupid is "if he was caught". If you get caught, yes, you are stupid.
Yeah dude, I'm 15 and I'm on your internets posting from my cubicle. Holla! But, most people are manipulated easily. Organized religion has a lock on it. I think the Pope is a sociopath.

That logical fallacy is big enough to drive a train through. You've yet to understand the difference between giving a few beta keys out to associates and doing something you can get fired for. Did it ever occur to you that giving beta keys out at employee's discretion is work-sanctioned? Maybe they even give a few to each person, telling them to invite their friends? Congratulations, you got on your knees long enough for a beta key. That sure does make you the alpha male. Frankly, people value their jobs a hell of a lot more than they value you and your petty, ham-fisted power scheming ways. Judging by the tone and content of your posts, I'd agree with turtle and suggest you MAY have made it all the way to assistant manager at your local Dunkin' Donuts.

Where the fuck do you guys get the ability to read. No, seriously. How many times in this thread alone has one or another of you decided to personalize the behavior I've described to me and me alone. Yeah, I'm sucking cock for a beta key. It makes me feel like a pretty princess. I would certainly hope people reading this thread value their jobs more than me. I'm just some anonymous fucktard on the internet, but if you knew me in real life, an hour after you met me, I would have your ATM card, your car and your wife/gf out for a drink while you were sitting at home watching The Daily Show. And the best part is you would have asked me to take them all so you could have some alone time. Ask Warhammer's former Community Manager about whether or not giving a few beta keys out to associates and doing something you can get fired for are two different things. If not directly, then a contributing factor to why they no longer work at EA Mythic. That logical fallacy is big enough to drive a train through. Not really. The statements in their ordered sequence makes them both true. I don't see a failure in logic at all. Stop playing already, and give me my "duly earned verbal bitchslap". So far, you guys haven't set down your teacups or removed your monocles.

I guess I lied about that being my last comment. I like the MMO picture. Also, I'm just some anonymous fucktard on the internet, but if you knew me in real life, an hour after you met me, I would have your ATM card, your car and your wife/gf out for a drink while you were sitting at home watching The Daily Show.
