I got carpel tunnel just watching that.

I'm going to kill someone if they put bullshit like that in front of cool unlockable songs on expert.

So they've stopped including tracks by local bands?  I can't find any mention of an actual list of bonus tracks anywhere, so it would be cool if someone could link to wherever you guys are getting your info.  If they really have stopped using the local bands, this is very sad for me.  Guitar Hero I wouldn't have been nearly addicting for me without Even Rats.

To be honest, I'm of the opposite position--some really good songs were totally ruined by the cover bands (Killing in the Name Of is just one off the top of my head)--I'm ALL for master tracks ;)

I think he just means the bonus songs you get from the in-game store.  Nobody likes the covers.  Do they?

Understand that MTV owns Guitar Hero now, so with that comes all of the stink that is MTV.  Bands who have not 'made it' through the recording industry's mechanisms are probably going to be ignored.  Hence no more Rush.  The smaller, local bands are probably out too.  GHIV will have Gwen Stefani and Kelly Osbourne tracks.  Watch out for Hip Hop Hero.

I'm starting to think Rock Band will be the way to go.

Umm, you've got it wrong.  Activision still owns Red Octane, who've taken over from Guitar Hero's creators; Harmonix.  Harmonix are the ones who are in bed with EA and MTV, and they're making Rock Band.  As to the MTV stink, there hasn't been much evidence of it yet, considering that one of the first available albums will be Who's Next, one of the greatest rock albums of all time.  Then there's also Nevermind, a bunch of Grateful Dead stuff, and a whole lot of Metallica.

Oh, and the game itself comes with Tom Sawyer on it, so there is Rush in the game.  And since when did Rush somehow exemplify going outside the "industry's mechanisms"?  They're a corporate band just like any other.  Fugazi I can see, but Rush?

Guitar Hero is being made by Neversoft.

Rock Band is being made by MTV and Harmonix.

Seems Big Gulp covered it, but hell, there it is, again.

Oh hell.  Big Gulp wins.

Activision = GHIII, MTV = Harmonix = Rock Band.

But that does undo my perspective.  Considerably.

As for Rush, I meant only that they had not used industry mechanisms to achieve fame.  They are, obviously, part of the industry.

Well, i think we all know, MTV loves to use the music from bands its doesn't support, or even play the videos for (Such as Pantera for one)...love it they do.

My metal comment was 1 part "metal snob" (Some of the tracks are not really metal, but more pop metal IMO), 1 part "There should be more" (especially at higher levels). It is a decent list, and does seem to run a decent "Taste" spectrum.

Something that is sadly lacking, no clutch.

Does anyone know if the use of real bands and masters will put an end to the [radio edit] aspect of GH in either GH3 or Rock Band? I love me some Dead Kennedys, but that Police Truck cover was awful on so many levels...

And since this is a GH3 thread..

What's the thoughts on PS2 vs Wii?
I don't own a 360, and since Sony has now invaded my Motherfucking, I won't be buying a PS3 for the forseeable future or longer.

PS2 means I already have 2 guitars, but no doanloadable tracks.
Wii means I pay a little more to get it with a guitar, though the money isn't an issue (though I'll then only have 1 guitar). Presumably there'll be some way to doanload extra tracks onto the Wii version, though..

In the interest of minimizing plastic guitar storage space, I'm getting this for PS2.  I'm betting downloadable content will be jack and shit regardless of platform.

Well, they've already committed to having full albums for download.  Both Guitar Hero III and Rock Band have listed several albums.  The ones for Rock Band are particularly good.

Interesting, I've not heard any mention of full album downloads for GH3.  Where can I find a listing of these?

Er, I may have put my foot in my mouth on that one.  I was pretty positive that they had, but maybe I'm completely wrong here.  Apologies if I am.

Still, if Rock Band does it, don't expect GH III to be far behind.

Once GH3 is on the PC, it seems like a pretty sure thing that somebody will have a hack inside of a week that allows you to import your own songs, and inside of a month there will be a thriving tabbing community, some of whom may even produce passable work, and host it in Sweden so that all can benefit.  Good times will be had.

Or... the Signal to Noise ratios of guitar tabs and game mods will combine to create some horrible black hole that nothing useful could escape from.

I'd say this is likely not the case. Typically an indie developer will pick it up as a side project and create something useful.

StepMania is a classic example. I've played some really, really fun and well done custom ITG/DDR songs.

I'm not betting on much GH3 DLC, based on prior evidence; Rockband will pull that off (yay, MTV??). I am getting the Wii version, for online play (the system, friend codes aside, is supposed to be slick like X-Box Live, while the PS3 version isn't going to be a such, for some reason) , the rumble, and the speaker.

What can I say about F13?  It's really my favorite website in the entire universe!  I love the irreverent banter and sly wit these keyboard jockeys produce.  And I especially love the staff, they're AWESOME.

Is that video uber-choppy, or is my VPN bottlenecking everything too much for me to see it well?

Last I saw was the 28th, which makes almost no sense (since it is a Sunday).
