Lovely!
Going to try a new street photography push--I got a small but excellent Ricoh and I have some cool ideas for shots.

Thanks!
The escalator one looks almost like...social commentary? Something profound about climbing the class ladder or so. Not

The burn wasn't me trying to be artsy, it's smoking-under-influence. Glad I didn't burn the house down.

So, does anybody have recommendations for a good set of Lightroom presets? I'm about to go several months without high speed internet and extended downtime at rural places, so I ordered a nice new laptop. When I get back to the US, decided I should go through the several years worth of travel photos I've taken and left to rot, to touch them up and get ready to share. I've never really bothered with light room, but everybody swears by it, so guess I should get in on that action as well. I see all sorts of free pre-sets, and if any basic set will do the job, then great. Just curious if anybody had any recommendations for things like that.

Light Room can do so much to photos, I don't generally use a set number of presets, I just play it by ear depending on the photo I have and what it needs to be. It's an amazing package that rewards "play time."

Fair enough, and I know you can really tweak things with it. However, I’m going to be messing around with 100’s if not thousands of photos, so was hoping for just a few click solution to most quickly make the photo look presentable before moving on to the next one. I’m sure on the photos I really like I’ll sit and play with them for awhile, but that doesn’t seem practical for the amount I have laying around. Also, as always, facebook is evil. Getting spammed with ad’s from this douchebag to buy Light Room presets from him for $27. https://www.photoserge.com

Honestly, I haven't fucked with anything that isn't a built-in preset, and they are all pretty damn sharp. You could potentially find a good preset in there then batch process it on a bunch of photos. And the beauty of LR is that you can just undo one of those presets and still keep the rest applied or make copies of the same image with different effects added all without altering your original file.

I don't really use presets at all. When I import a bunch of photos, I'll do a contrast curve, split toning and colour balance on one, then copy and paste those settings to the others before going through them one at a time to apply more specific edits - crops, exposure balance, etc.
That works for me because most of the time when I import a set of photos, they were all taken at roughly the same time in similar light.

Lightroom Classic Tether Release 1 is out. I was in the test group for this, probably because I had written some feedback asking for it a while ago. I hadn't tried the last couple betas, but I do remember liking it better than trying to mess with the Canon utility.
The self portrait drawing I did was shot using Lightroom tethering with an early alpha last year.
edit: ok, nm. Maybe they mean to call it RC1, it's still in the beta downloads. Anyway, check it out if you have beta build access.

I tried tethering recently with Lr and it's as janky as fuck. I have a 5Div which is a supported camera and the tether session would randomly stop or not show previews of the last few images for some reason. At one point it stopped importing new images and I had to manually import them after each shot. Needed numerous restarts of both Lr and the camera. Also there's no way that I could find to mirror the live view to the tethered laptop. The only way to do that I found was to use EOS Utility as the tethering controller, but then that means I don't get the image preview and instant editing options of Lightroom.

Take a step back and talk about what this is at a basic level, if you're willing?

He's talking about having issues with tethering in Lightroom where you capture straight onto your PC and can view/check the image in Lightroom on a display much larger than the LCD on the back of the camera (in this case a Canon 5D Mark IV).

Basically this. You connect the camera to a computer and the output goes directly there instead of (or as well as) to the SD card. This is good for shoots with a client present because you can show them the images on a usefully sized screen and do some quick edits on the spot. Lightroom has a tethering module but it's bad (see my previous post). What I would expect is that the main preview pane of Lightroom mirrors the live view screen on the back of the camera. This would let you make adjustments to the composition, focus, exposure etc before you took the image. But Lr doesn;t let you do that, it just shows you the last image you took. Except when it doesn't and just refuses to show you any new images.
Canon has an app called Eos Utility 3 which lets you use your computer or mobile device as a remote control for your Canon camera. You can not only see the live-view screen on your connected device, but you can also change camera settings via that UI. It also lets you specify an output location on the connected device to save images to automatically. But it doesn't have the fast image review and editing options that Lightroom has because it's not a workflow suite like Lightroom.

I'm kind of ok with the lack of remote camera controls from inside Lightroom at this point, I think the focus needs to be on getting a solid, user-friendly (meaning dummies like me) live view and shot review. When I have a model, I'm shooting with the camera and mostly just use it for the bigger screen to check details and get a better feel for composition. If I'm using my cheap model (me), it would be nice to have the remote controls, though.
