Are people here confusing Fast Food Nation with Supersize Me?  When I read Fast Food Nation, I didn't get the impression from it that Fast Food chains were any worse than grocery stores.  In fact I seem to recall a section pointing out that one of the main motivating factors behind stricter quality controls for rendering plants was McDonalds and other fast food chains. 

The book actually seemed pretty even handed to me.

The last time I went to Wendy's was over a year ago. I had to return my sandwich twice as it was screwed up and had to wait along with other customers who also were protesting their fouled up orders. The manager kept apologizing profusely how the sandwich maker couldn't read English and thus the order takers were required to reiterate the verbal sandwich orders to her, to which she couldn't keep straight — how genius is it to have a system with monitors, photo button touchpads, and displayed orders when the workers can't read English.

I don't think it was the language barrier. Dave Thomas was a great guy, but his franchisees run their shops like shit. When I have a bad experience at the drive-thru with slow or idiotic orders, it's generally at a Wendy's. They just have this culture of retardation that seems to infect everyone that works there. I can't explain it.

1.  More love for Jack in the Box.  Fucking curley fries, overpriced but good sourdough burger and the ultimates which are heartattack inducing awesome.

2.  For all my Bay Area people, plz make sure you have been to Grubsteak at least once (Post & Polk or thereabouts) its open till like 4am, serves one terrible and one solid portugese beer and will put a fried egg on a good burger for not too much money.  Mostly though its open to 4am, which is the win.

3.  Wendy's is only good in Ohio.  One of the most awesome things about it is square patties stack hella well.  A four or five layer burger is totally edible with one hand.

4.  Carl's Jr. deserves more love imo, criss cut fries as I mentioned before but also some of their junky burgers w/ artificial bacon and giant onion rings on them are winners too.  Westerns or somesuch.  Does anyone else have Carl's Jr/Green Burrito locations?

5.  Sonics frozen juice'ish drinks...

6.  Thanks to whoever posted the in-and-out secret orders I didn't know all of those.  I've heard animal style several times but didn't know most of those others.

To say the least, the location I used to go to used to be one of the best burgers I'd ever eaten, til they changed some equipment. That was a dark day.

Yeah, their sourdough burgers are awesome. I don't know whether they've introduced it up there or not, but they have the new Sirloin burgers, where you pick your cheese and onions. Really tasty burgers, they have this interesting herb mayo on it.

Yeah, pretty much every Carl's Jr. here in the greater Los Angeles area is a Carl's + Green Burrito. I can't say I've ever had any of the Green Burrito stuff, though it does look quite tasty.

As for ye olde fast food I have limited choice since I now live in the frozen tundra that is Alaska. The Wendy's up here is pretty good since they actually put salt on the goddamn fries. Burger King used to be my favorite but the one up here must be run by a syphilitic ferret judging by the service.

For the most part I get my dine out food here from local food joints. One thing I gotta hand to these guys in Fairbanks is is they know how to make good food. Of course when it hits 50 below in December there ain't exactly much else to do around here but eat and procreate so...
